  • Patent number: 5771946
Abstract: Apparatus for, and a method of, withdrawing liquefied cryogenic fuel stored in a primary insulated storage tank at a relatively low pressure and temperature; increasing the pressure of the withdrawn liquefied cryogenic fuel through a heat exchanger to warm the liquefied cryogenic fuel to a subcooled or near saturated liquid condition; and feeding the warmed and pressurized liquefied cryogenic fuel to an insulated tank on a vehicle at a refueling facility, said vehicle using liquefied cryogenic fuel as its fuel and the insulated vehicle fuel tank being adapted to safely contain and store the liquefied cryogenic fuel in liquid form, at an approximate saturated condition.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 17, 1996
Date of Patent: June 30, 1998
Assignee: Chicago Bridge & Iron Technical Services Company
Inventors: Richard John Kooy, Mervyn Ladd Conrad, David John Forgash, Raymond Korzonas, Bryan Patrick Neuhalfen, George D. Rhoades, Jack Wayne Sudduth
  • Patent number: 5687776
Abstract: Apparatus for, and a method of, withdrawing liquefied cryogenic fuel stored in a primary insulated storage tank at a low pressure and at a temperature close to its boiling point; increasing the pressure of the withdrawn liquefied cryogenic fuel and then feeding the pressurized liquefied cryogenic fuel through a heat exchanger to warm the liquefied cryogenic fuel to a subcooled or near saturated liquid condition; and feeding the said warmed and pressurized liquefied cryogenic fuel to an insulated tank on a vehicle at a refueling facility, the vehicle using liquefied cryogenic fuel as its fuel and the insulated vehicle fuel tank being adapted to safely contain and store the said liquefied cryogenic fuel in liquid form, at an approximate saturated condition.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 4541248
Abstract: A freeze concentrator of the shell and tube type containing a pool of liquid cryogen within the shell, the concentrator being adapted to maintain a constant temperature within the liquid cryogen. The temperature control comprises a flash tank located above the level of liquid cryogen within the concentrator, to which the vapors evolved from the boiling cryogen are passed. The flash tank is provided with a condenser for condensing the cryogen vapor which enters the flash tank, the resulting liquid cryogen collecting within the flash tank and being recycled therefrom by gravity to the pool of cryogen in the exchanger.

Inventors: John S. Andrepont, Raymond Korzonas
  • Patent number: 4517806
Abstract: Apparatus for separating ice from concentrated liquid and washing the ice, including a vessel having a bottom and vertical wall joined to the bottom; a plurality of vertical tubular members in the vessel extending upwardly from the bottom; perforations in the upper portion of the tubular members through which concentrated liquid in the vessel can drain into the tubes; a first conduit for feeding a slurry of ice and concentrated liquid to the vessel; a second conduit communicating with the tubes for withdrawing concentrated liquid from the tubes; a concentrated liquid withdrawal third conduit communicating with the vessel lower interior portion for withdrawing concentrated liquid from the vessel; and control means to maintain a predetermined concentrated liquid level, and a predetermined pressure distribution, in the vessel.
