  • Patent number: 4480700
Abstract: A boring tool particularly useful for cutting counterbores in an engine block includes means for selectively engaging and disengaging an output shaft which is rotated and axially advanced during the cutting operation. Preferably, the selective engaging and disengaging means includes feed threads formed on the output shaft, and a threaded means which is selectively moveable into and out of threaded engagement with the feed threads on the output shaft. Preferably, the boring tool is of the differential-rate type wherein the output shaft is rotated at a first predetermined rotational rate and the threaded means is rotated at a second different predetermined rotational rate. The differential rotational rate establishes the advancement rate of the output shaft. The position of the output shaft and the cutter element it carries can be readily adjusted without necessity of operating the boring tool to establish the cutter position.

  • Patent number: 4213333
Abstract: Reaction torque of a planetary gear type torque multiplier assembly is measured in apparatus which includes multiple stage torque multiplying apparatus and a torque readout meter which is operated by the reaction torque sensed. A reaction coupling arrangement operatively associated with a planetary torque multiplier includes a ring gear around which the planetary gears traverse. The ring gear is attached to a pivotable reaction torque cup. The reaction torque cup is biased by a pair of parallel extending deflection beams. As torque is applied, the ring gear deflects in accordance with reaction torque, and the amount of deflection is operatively coupled to the torque readout meter where an indication of torque is registered. The torque readout meter includes a stay set feature to maintain torque indications after the applied torque is terminated.

  • Patent number: 4212196
Abstract: Reaction torque between a drive shaft of a drive motor and the stationary housing of the drive motor is measured by apparatus which includes a torque readout meter and a torque multiplying arrangement. The apparatus includes a pivot sleeve member which is operatively connected to and pivots with the drive motor housing. A single deflection beam extends from the sleeve to the housing of the apparatus. The beam deflects when the sleeve pivots under the application of torque from the drive motor. The amount of deflection of the beam is operatively coupled to the torque readout meter where an indication of torque is registered. The torque readout meter includes a stay set feature to maintain the maximum readings after the applied torque is terminated. Two output shafts supply output torque. One output shaft applies multiplied torque and reduced rotational speed as compared to the other shaft which is directly connected to the drive motor.

  • Patent number: 4210990
Abstract: The apparatus of the invention comprises a gear puller assembly with removable jaws adapted to be extended around the teeth of the gear to be pulled from a shaft, and screw means capable of exerting pressure required to pull the gear. The method of the invention includes the steps of positioning a first puller jaw affixed to the gear puller assembly around a portion of a gear press-fitted onto a shaft, positioning a second puller jaw around a remaining portion of the gear and affixing the second puller jaw to the gear puller assembly, then applying the force necessary to pull the gear.
