  • Methods and apparatus for making prevailing torque nuts

    Abstract: To impart prevailing torque to a nut, it is squeezed between two jaws. The moment that the nut contacts both jaws is determined by monitoring the relative acceleration of the jaws. The displacement of the jaws at this time gives the dimension across the flats of the nut. From this is subtracted the desired degree of deformation giving a target displacement. When this has been reached and sensed, the jaws are stopped and then opened.
