  • Publication number: 20090208362
Abstract: A novel and unique nano aluminum-matrix-composite alloy that has higher strength between room temperature and 200 degrees C. than those of prior art aluminum alloys and prior art aluminum-matrix-composites. The composite alloy has improved fatigue resistance, wear resistance, a lower coefficient of thermal expansion and higher modules than prior art aluminum alloys.

  • Publication number: 20090208359
Abstract: A method for manufacturing and producing metal alloy billet products from particulate starting materials, particularly adapted for use with aluminum and aluminum alloy wrought products and their manufacture involving the use of powdered starting materials. The method includes the basic steps of preparing elemental, master alloy or prealloyed metal powders with or without a foreign reinforcement phase, compacting the prepared powder into pellets, introducing and compacting the pellets into a die, consolidating the compacted powder into a billet.

  • Patent number: 5948495
Abstract: A rigid disk substrate for a magnetic recording disk is formed of a ceramic-metal matrix composite. The ceramic-metal matrix composite has a composition ranging from approximately 1 to 40 weight % of ceramic material and 60 to 99 weight % of aluminum or aluminum alloy metal matrix. The ceramic material may be silicon carbide, aluminum oxide, boron carbide, magnesium oxide, silicon oxide, silicon nitride, zirconium oxide, beryllium oxide, titanium boride, titanium carbide, tungsten carbide, or combinations thereof.

  • Patent number: 5895696
Abstract: A rigid disk substrate for a magnetic recording disk is formed of a metal-clad ceramic-metal matrix composite sandwich structure. The ceramic-metal matrix composite has a composition ranging from approximately 1 to 40 weight % of ceramic and 60 to 99 weight % of metal matrix. The metal matrix material and the metal cladding material are aluminum or an aluminum alloy. The substrate has a thickness less than 1 mm.
