  • Patent number: 7937447
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for improving communication between processors in separate computer systems. Components and peripherals in individual computer systems communicate using input/output (I/O) buses such as PCI Express buses. • Patent number: 7602774
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for allowing quality of service (QoS) configuration for storage applications running on servers connected to a storage area network (SAN). Resources such as host bus adapters (HBAs) are offloaded from individual servers onto a resource virtualization switch. Servers are connected to the resource virtualization switch using an I/O bus connection. The resource virtualization switch provides storage applications running on connected servers with different quality of service levels. The resource virtualization switch can also apply traffic shaping policies associated with QoS.

  • Patent number: 7289503
Abstract: A network device includes an interface and packet processing logic. The interface receives a multicast packet. The packet processing logic determines identifier data corresponding to the received multicast packet and replicates the identifier data to multiple outgoing packet forward engines at a first point in a processing path. The packet processing logic further replicates the identifier data to multiple data streams at a second point in the processing path and replicates the identifier data to multiple logical interfaces in the same stream at a third point in the processing path.

  • Publication number: 20070220189
Abstract: A device includes an input processing unit and an output processing unit. The input processing unit dispatches first data to one of a group of processing engines, records an identity of the one processing engine in a location in a first memory, reserves one or more corresponding locations in a second memory, causes the first data to be processed by the one processing engine, and stores the processed first data in one of the locations in the second memory. The output processing unit receives second data, assigns an entry address corresponding to a location in an output memory to the second data, transfers the second data and the entry address to one of a group of second processing engines, causes the second data to be processed by the second processing engine, and stores the processed second data to the location in the output memory.

  • Publication number: 20070183425
Abstract: A packet header processing engine includes a memory having a number of distinct portions for respectively storing different types of descriptor information for a header of a packet. A packet header processing unit includes a number of pointers corresponding to the number of distinct memory portions. The packet header processing unit is configured to retrieve the different types of descriptor information from the number of distinct memory portions and to generate header information from the different types of descriptor information.

  • Publication number: 20070147257
Abstract: A method and apparatus for in-line processing a data packet while routing the packet through a router in a system transmitting data packets between a source and a destination over a network including the router. The method includes receiving the data packet and pre-processing layer header data for the data packet as the data packet is received and prior to transferring any portion of the data packet to packet memory. The data packet is thereafter stored in the packet memory. A routing through the router is determined including a next hop index describing the next connection in the network. The data packet is retrieved from the packet memory and a new layer header for the data packet is constructed from the next hop index while the data packet is being retrieved from memory. The new layer header is coupled to the data packet prior to transfer from the router.

  • Publication number: 20050201396
Abstract: A method and apparatus for switching a data packet between a source and destination in a network. The data packet includes a header portion and a data portion. The header portion includes routing information for the data packet. The method includes defining a data path in the router comprising a path through the router along which the data portion of the data packet travels and defining a control path comprising a path through the router along which routing information from the header portion travels. The method includes separating the data path and control path in the router such that the routing information can be separated from the data portion allowing for the separate processing of each in the router. The data portion can be stored in a global memory while routing decisions are made on the routing information in the control path.

  • Patent number: 6636952
Abstract: A network device includes systems and methods for processes streams of data. The network device stores data and addresses corresponding to the streams in a memory. The addresses store pointers to the data. Output logic within the network device determines whether an address is required to be fetched. When no address is required to be fetched, then data is read from the memory. When an address is required to be fetched, the address is fetched from the memory and data is read from the memory using the fetched address. To facilitate this, notifications may be stored corresponding to the streams and notification pointers may be used to identify ones of the notifications to be processed. A prefetch pointer may also be used to identify a notification with one or more associated addresses to be prefetched.
