    Abstract: A screening apparatus includes elongate beams and screen panels mounted to the beams to form a broad screening surface. Each of the panels are mounted so that side edges of adjacent panels are in facing relationship. Each panel is mounted to a pair of beams to bridge between two adjacent beams. The panels are mounted to the beams by fixing members. The fixing members have a pair of upstanding rails that are spaced apart to define a longitudinal gap between them. The panels are mounted to the beams by cooperation between the side edges with a rail of a fixing member. Cover strips extend along the beams and include a cover portion and a locking portion. The cover portion bears against an upper surface of a pair of adjacent panels and the locking portion bears against facing surfaces of the rails to resist movement of the rails towards each other.

    Abstract: A shielding device 23, 24, in apparatus 1 for screening ore or like material includes an elongate body portion 25 for location over the top surface 7 of a support beam 3 of a support frame for screen panels 6. The shielding device includes at least one skirt 26 projecting from a side of the body portion 25. The device is locatable between the screen panels 6, a fixing member 13 for the screen panels and the beam 3 and provides a surface 27-27a for collecting fines material that ingresses between the screen panels 6 and fixing member 13 and deflecting it away from the beam 3. Use of the shielding devices reduces wear on the support beams 3 due to the abrasive fines material. The shielding devices are consumable items and can be replaced.

    Abstract: A screen panel module for mounting on a screen deck frame for screening, separating and grading materials such as ores. The module comprises a stiff frame component for supporting a resiliently flexible screening surface provided by a panel component. Opposite sides of the panel component include depending flanges having ribs for seating in complementary grooves in sides of the frame component for removably mounting the panel component on the frame component. The module includes means such as ribs, grooves, beads or the like, preferable associated with both the panel and frame components for interengaging with fixing means for locating and fixing the module to a screen deck frame. Whereas the whole of a prior art screen module has to be exchanged when worn, the invention allows the exchange of one component of a module, namely the panel component, which component costs a fraction of the whole module.

Each screen panel (2) includes a longitudinally extending arm (20) connected to a side face (19) of the panel by a cantilever section (22). The adjacent screen panels (2) are secured in position by virtue of the arms (20) being clamped between a rail type fixing member (4), which is fixed to the screen deck frame by bolts (9-11), and a rail type retaining member (5). Retaining member 5 has a cover portion (27) that overlies the joint between the adjacent screen panels to prevent the entry of ore fines into the joint. Embodiments are described wherein the arms may extend upwardly or downwardly, and wherein the upper surface of the cover portion of the retaining member may lie flush with the upper surface of the screen panels.

An elongate fixing rail extends over the screen deck frame along and between side edge regions of a pair of adjacent screen panels. The fixing rail, in use, is non-interconnecting with the screen panels. An elongate retaining strip extends along the fixing rail, and engages the side edge regions of the screen panels in an overlying relationship. The retaining strip is connectable to the fixing rail so that the retaining strip secures the screen panels in position against upward movement away from the screen deck frame.
