Publication number: 20070099462Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a printing assembly incorporating an improved double-sided image transfer station. The present disclosure also describes a product processing apparatus including a cross feed processing architecture. The single-pass double-sided image transfer station and cross feed processing architectures described herein provide numerous advantages over prior art product processing devices. In particular, the single-pass double-sided image transfer station provides for reduced print times, less shuttling of the product during printing, and a less complex, therefore, more reliable printing operation overall. The cross feed architecture provides an efficient processing path for the product through the device and facilitates processing modularization.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2006Publication date: May 3, 2007Inventors: Thomas Helma, Terrence Jones, Raymond Maynard, Richard Sadeck

Publication number: 20060281057Abstract: A card-flipping device for a card printing apparatus is provided. The card-flipping device comprises a card-carrier unit for transporting the card in a vertical direction, a motor drive means for moving the unit in the vertical direction, and an actuator assembly including a rotatable cam arm for flipping the card over. The card-flipping device is particularly suitable for use in thermal dye printers that print images on card substrates such as driver's licenses, employee badges, student cards, and the like. After one surface of the card has been printed, the card is conveyed to the card-flipping device, where the card is flipped over so that the reverse, unprinted side of the card can be printed thereon.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2006Publication date: December 14, 2006Inventors: Terrence Jones, Raymond Maynard

Publication number: 20060221167Abstract: The present invention provides an assembly that includes a print head and a power conditioning circuit in a common frame. The co-location of the print head and power conditioning circuit in the frame alleviates added signal noise and power dissipation. Further, it allows for efficient temperature regulation of the two print head and power conditioning circuit.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 17, 2006Publication date: October 5, 2006Applicant: ZIH CorpInventors: Raymond Maynard, Jeffrey Berry

Publication number: 20050052491Abstract: A card-cleaning assembly for printers is provided. The assembly can be used in any suitable card printing apparatus, particularly thermal dye printers. Such card printers are used to print driver's licenses, employee badges, student cards, and the like. The assembly includes a card-cleaning roller and an adhesive tape cartridge. The cleaning roller contacts the card and removes dust and dirt particles and other debris from the surface of the card. The tape cartridge is attached to a pivoting arm on the printer which pivots so that the adhesive tape engages the cleaning roller and removes the debris from the roller as the roller rotates.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2004Publication date: March 10, 2005Inventors: Thomas Helma, Terrence Jones, Raymond Maynard

Patent number: 6744455Abstract: A method and apparatus for recording image information on a moving receiver media at a thermal print station features a ribbon cassette assembly that stores a thermal ribbon having dye, the thermal ribbon being supported as a supply role and take-up role on the ribbon cassette assembly, the ribbon cassette assembly including a wall structure defining a plenum chamber. Air under pressure is provided to the plenum chamber. An elongated thermal print head is positioned in engagement with the thermal ribbon; and recording elements on the thermal print head are directed along a main scan direction. The print head has associated therewith a heat sink that includes a series of parallel fins arranged along the length of the print head and the fins are oriented at least generally perpendicular to the main scan direction of printing. Cooling air flows from the wall structure, which structure extends in the direction of elongation of the print head.Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2002Date of Patent: June 1, 2004Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventors: David E. Coons, Frederic J. Sturgis, Raymond Maynard, David A. Johnson

Patent number: 6283188Abstract: A two-sided card laminating apparatus simultaneously applies and bonds laminate sheets to opposing faces of a two-sided card substrate. The apparatus includes two opposing laminating assemblies symmetrically mounted in mirror image relation on opposing sides of a substrate supply path. Individual sheets of laminate are cut from webs of lamina and transferred onto the card substrate at a convergence zone disposed on the substrate supply path. Each of the laminating assemblies includes a web of lamina, a cutter, and nip rollers disposed between the web and the cutter. The nip rollers advance the web in an upstream direction through the cutter into engagement with a transfer roller. As the laminate exits the cutter, the leading edge is captured between the outer surface of the transfer roller and a laminate guide where it is grabbed by the outer surface of the transfer roller.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 1998Date of Patent: September 4, 2001Assignee: Atlantek, Inc.Inventors: Raymond Maynard, Christian S. Rothwell
