In various embodiments, controlled electronic communication may occur between clients of two or more users. Controlled electronic communication may be initiated between clients of a primary user and a secondary user when each user is available to begin communication. A controlled communication server handles initiation and communication requests, and stores and determines user availability statuses. In one embodiment, a user may indicate an availability time range for which the user is available to initiate communication. Responsive to a determination that each user associated with a communication session is available, instructions are sent to a client of a user to commence controlled electronic communication.
