Patent number: 7151240Abstract: A bi-directional tamper resistant temperature adjustment controller interface comprises a control dial having an interior face wherein a cylindrical center boss extends therefrom, said cylindrical center boss having a substantially annular cross section, and a central axial bore adapted to receive a rotatable control member and an exterior side wall of the boss has formed therein a first and a second ring of inline recessed notches adapted for resistively engaging a deflecting member. In one embodiment of the invention the first and second ring of inline recessed notches are a first and second ring of directional serrations wherein the first ring of serrations are angularly directed in a first direction to resist rotation of the dial in one direction of rotation and the second ring of serrations are angularly directed in a second direction to resist rotation of the dial in an opposing direction of rotation.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 2005Date of Patent: December 19, 2006Assignee: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventors: Raymond-Paul Joubran, Can Trong Nguyen

Patent number: 6553946Abstract: A single control device is operational to control the flow of gas to a water heater as well as to protect against excessive temperature and pressure. The control device requires only a single fitting to be attached to the water heater tank to expedite the assembly process, eliminate a number of potential sources of leakage and reduce heat loss.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2000Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Roberrshaw Controls CompanyInventors: Anthony W. Abraham, Raymond-Paul Joubran

Patent number: 6554322Abstract: A mechanism for attaching a gas controller to a water heater includes a shank that is longitudinally received in a spud attached to the water heater. O-rings serve to form a water tight seal between the interior surface of the spud and the exterior surface of the shank. Slots formed in the spud and a groove formed in the shank allow the two components to be axially locked to one another with the insertion of a retainer spring clip. The spring clip is readily removable to allow the two components to be separated without the destruction of any components.Type: GrantFiled: May 21, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Inventors: Thach Duong, Raymond-Paul Joubran, Joseph Raffaelli, Kenneth N. Minkler

Patent number: 6286464Abstract: A water heating system in which the output water temperature is regulated by a mixing valve which allows the temperature of the water contained within the water heater to be maintained at a much higher temperature without compromising safety. Significantly more hot water is therefore available for use yet the maximum temperature supplied to the various points of usage are within the safe limits. The system can be additionally configured to supply unmixed hot water to points of usage where a higher temperature is needed and a user is not exposed to the water such as for example in a dishwasher.Type: GrantFiled: June 9, 2000Date of Patent: September 11, 2001Assignee: Robertshaw Controls CompanyInventors: Anthony W.
