Abstract: A plurality of light emitting components are disclosed disposed about a flexible substrate shaped to approximate a portion of the human body. The flexible substrate has a plurality of slots that allow portions of the substrate to flex to accommodate different shaped portions of the human body. A shell is disposed atop the flexible substrate and is biased in a first position to have an internal volume. The shell has a plurality of slots allowing portions of the shell to flex to increase or decrease the internal volume of the shell.

The device illuminates an area with light in the near-infrared region of the electromagnetic spectrum. Preferably, light having wavelengths of from about 870 nm to about 930 nm will be used. Further, the device includes light emitting diodes that are capable of emitting ultraviolet light. These lights are intended to provide a sterile environment for a user using the device.

Such increased activity will promote blood flow to the affected area thereby increasing cell nutrients and removing cellular exudates while stimulating the growth of new collagen thereby alleviating the cellulite.

The apparatus includes a central member with a nosepiece, the central member being attached to one or more light hubs. Each light hub includes a plurality of light sources, and the light sources are configured to emit light onto a portion of a user's head. A head piece component attached to the central member top extends over the user's head. Light emitted by the light sources has a wavelength ranging from about 600 nanometers to about 1200 nanometers. The apparatus includes an adjustment mechanism that enables the interpupillary distance between the light hubs to be adjusted, and padding proximate the light hubs to provide a close fit between the light hubs and the user.

The front is closed by a cup that fits on and receives the outer tube rim. The back is closed by a rear base assembly that receives an end of the inner tube so the inner tube does not contact the outer tube.
