  • Publication number: 20060255895
Abstract: A magnetic roller may comprise a magnetized outer surface and an internal chamber. A temperature control system may be in communication with the internal chamber, and a fluid capable of heat transfer may circulate within the internal chamber and the temperature control system. The magnetic roller may be used to produce magnetic sheets having magnetizable particles that are aligned according the a magnetic field generated by the magnetic roller. The magnetic sheet may be provided in a pliable form wherein magnetizable particles may shift orientation when exposed to the magnetic field. Heat may be transferred between the sheet and the magnetic roller to cause solidification of the magnetic material and prevent dealignment of the magnetic particles.

  • Publication number: 20060060701
Abstract: An aircraft has a fuselage, one or more propellers and a main wing. The wing has a central portion located beneath the fuselage and distal portions, which extend outwardly from opposite sides of the fuselage. The wing floats on water when the aircraft is stationary and maintains the fuselage above and out of the water. The aircraft optionally has a tail having a horizontal stabilizer, which provides additional support to the fuselage to maintain it out of water. The structure of the aircraft can be adapted for use as a watercraft by reducing the length of the wing.

  • Patent number: 6677685
Abstract: A clamp pressure controller for a variable ratio belt drive system for a generator is provided. The controller monitors the voltage at the output of the generator. If this falls the controller increases the clamp pressure so as to prepare the drive system for the additional torque/force it will be required to transmit. The increase in clamp pressure is rapid so as to prevent belt slip from occurring.

  • Publication number: 20030077465
Abstract: A method of forming a magnetic assembly having at least one magnetic layer having dimensions of thickness, width and length, and at least one printable substrate layer having dimensions of thickness, width and length, including the steps of providing a molten magnetic composition including about 70 wt-% to about 95 wt-% of at least one magnetic material and about 5 wt-% to about 30 wt-% of at least one thermoplastic binder, forming the magnetic composition into a magnetic layer at an elevated temperature and directly applying the magnetic layer at an elevated temperature to a first surface of a printable substrate layer wherein. An adhesion promoting composition may be further provided between the magnetic layer and the printable substrate layer for improving adhesion between the magnetic layer and the printable substrate layer.

  • Patent number: 5827357
Abstract: The separator includes a vertical cylindrical pressure vessel having elliptical top and bottom heads. A mechanical device, referred to as a vortex tube cluster of vertical tubes, is mounted in the upper section of the vessel chamber, spaced above the bottom head to define a lower chamber section for fluid and solids separation. Pressurized drilling fluid returns are directed tangentially into the vortex tubes and a subsequent centrifugal action is generated. Contained gas separates and forms a gas vortex which exits upwardly from the vortex tubes and vessel top. The liquids and solids discharge into the vessel lower chamber section where solids settle by gravity to the bottom. The solids are withdrawn from the base of the vessel by a slurry pump. The oil and water components of the fluid layer also separate by gravity and are individually removed from the vessel.

  • Patent number: 5653882
Abstract: This invention relates to methods for preparing membranes of polyfluoroethylene (PTFE) and to the asymmetric membranes fabricated thereby. Such membranes are useful as separation and ultrafiltration membranes. The membranes are produced as a single layer. Method steps including contacting a substrate with a solution of PTFE in a perfluorinated cycloalkane solvent at a high temperature to cause a film of such solution to be coated on the substrate, removing the coated substrate from the solution and rapidly cooling it by contact with a second solvent, removing the coated substrate from the second solvent, drying the film, and optionally separating film from substrate.

  • Patent number: 4029293
Abstract: A manually operable valve for controlling the displacement of a main pump in a hydrostatic transmission controls the quantity of fluid flow to the main pump for low speed operation of the transmission and controls the pressure of the fluid flowing to the main pump during periods of high speed operation of the transmission. The valve includes a pressure chamber acting to substantially balance forces on the valving element to obtain low-effort operation of the control plunger regardless of the position of the element and to automatically close the valve upon a failure in the control linkage for the plunger so that in the event the operator loses control of the valve through linkage failure all power to the transmission is cut off.
