  • Patent number: 5618515
Abstract: A composition is provided for the treatment of dermal burns and is composed of a homogeneous solution of skin conditioners, anesthetics, water, and alcohol in combination with dimethyl ether. The use of dimethyl ether as the propellant and solvent forms a homogeneous solution of ingredients which otherwise have little solubility in each other. This formulation also cools the skin when applied, significantly improving the healing of the burns. A pressurized aerosol container is also provided having a metered dose valve for accurately dispensing metered doses of the dermal burn composition to optimize treatment and prevent freezing of the skin.

  • Patent number: 5286720
Abstract: Compositions for topical treatment of lesions of human or animal skin which comprise dimethyl ether to freeze the tissue and an acid capable of dissolving the intercellular matrix of the lesion. The dimethyl ether and acid are present in the composition in amounts effective to remove the lesion in a single treatment by a combination of cryogenic and keratolytic action. Methods are provided for the topical treatment of lesions of the skin of human or animal subjects comprising direct spray or intermediate swab application of the present compositions to the lesions.

  • Patent number: 5017365
Abstract: Sunscreen compositions are made capable of rapid, uniform and stable diffusion in emulsified form in fibrous sheet applicator and of drying on the skin to non-tacky, non-greasy films, by emulsifying (1) about 1-25 wt. % of a substantially water-insoluble UV absorbing component capable of absorbing in at least the 290-320 nm range, (2) about 5-20 wt. % of a cosmetically acceptable alcohol, (3) about 1-10 wt. % of a nonionic emulsifier component, (4) about 0.01-0.5 wt. % of a hydrophilic acrylic acid polymer having a molecular weight of at least about 4.5.times.10.sup.5, (5) an effective amount of an alkaline neutralizer for the acrylic acid polymer, (6) about 2.5-20 wt. % of an emollient component and (7) at least about 50 wt. % water.Fibrous sheets impregnated with the compositions can be packaged in vapor-and moisture impermeable containers for stable storage and convenient use.
