  • Patent number: 8873052
Abstract: A method for determining the quality of the measuring results of a scattered light meter for measuring the particle concentration in motor vehicle exhaust gases, which has at least one scattered light measuring chamber, at least one light source and at least one light sensor, includes the steps: determining the difference between two scattered light sensor signals, that were picked up in a reference state of the scattered light meter; determining the difference between two scattered light sensor signals, which were picked up in a used state of the scattered light meter; and comparing the difference of the signals picked up in the used state to the reference signal difference of the signals picked up in the reference state.

  • Patent number: 8659756
Abstract: A scattered light method for measuring particle-dependent parameters of gases, in particular particle-dependent parameters of internal combustion engine exhaust gases or other colloids, includes introducing a particle-containing gas into a measuring chamber; emitting a light beam into the measuring chamber; receiving light scattered by the particles using at least two scattered light sensors, the scattered light sensors generating scattered light sensor signals, each being a function of the light received by the respective scattered light sensor; determining an average particle size from the scattered light sensor signals from at least two scattered light sensors and determining at least one further particle parameter from the previously determined average particle size and the scattered light sensor signals.

  • Publication number: 20130047703
Abstract: A device for measuring a particulate concentration in motor vehicle exhaust gases, has a measuring chamber, which is able to be filled up with a gas-particulate mixture that is to be measured, at least one light source and at least one light sensor. The light sensor detects light that has been scattered by particulates present in the gas-particulate mixture. An exhaust gas supply device is developed to supply exhaust gas, that is to be measured, to the measuring chamber. A null gas low in particulates is able to be supplied from a null gas source to the measuring chamber. A switching element, which is situated between the exhaust gas supply device and the measuring chamber, is suitable for admitting or forestalling the supply of exhaust gas into the measuring chamber on an optional basis.

  • Patent number: 5524480
Abstract: A method is proposed for determining the rough engine run of an internal combustion engine (10), wherein a signal processing arrangement (13-19, 30, 50, 51) determines the engine rotation from a signal (Ub) appearing at a generator (11) driven by the internal combustion engine (10) or at a load (12) connected to the generator (11). The signal (Ub) is composed of signal components including long period durations (Tm) and signal components including short period durations (Tmn) which are evaluated separately as well as together in an evaluation unit (15). The signal component including the short period durations (Tmn) can be derived from commutation oscillations (40) which occur within signal Ub if the generator (11) is configured as an alternating current/three-phase current generator and is equipped with rectifiers and phase fan-in.

  • Patent number: 5216881
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement which permits operating characteristic variables such as the crankshaft rotational speed and the content of exhaust gas components to be determined in the workshop. The sensor is mounted so as to be stationary in the exhaust gas system or is only intermittently mounted in this system. According to one arrangement of the invention, the exhaust gas sensor includes a first device which receives the pressure of the exhaust gas of the engine. In this way, the crankshaft rotational speed can be arrived at. A second device is arranged in the exhaust gas sensor which has an output signal which is a measure for the content of an exhaust gas component. A further embodiment of the arrangement of the invention includes an exhaust gas sensor having a first device which is configured as a fault meter, temperature sensor or as a hot wire flow meter. Other devices can be utilized to detect further variables of the exhaust gas and evaluate the same.
