  • Patent number: 6767168
Abstract: A method and apparatus associated with forming a blade attachment slot in a gas turbine engine turbine disk. The method further includes a full-form finish honing that produces a blade attachment slot free of broach ripples. The apparatus includes a broach carrier and cutting inserts coupled to the support. The cutting inserts are interchangeable and can be replaced when worn or damaged. The carrier has integral support members for bracing the cutting inserts. Each cutting insert has lateral support surfaces to prevent the cutting insert from moving laterally within the cutting insert assembly. Further, the broach assembly can be used as a replacement for damaged portions of a broach. The cutting inserts can be manufactured utilizing a fixtured EDM process.

  • Patent number: 6702524
Abstract: A broach tool including a row of longitudinally aligned cutting inserts (22) spaced apart by removable insert support members (25). The insert support members (25) and the cutting inserts (22) each have a root portion captured within the main body of the broach tool. Bracing support is provided to each of the cutting inserts (22) during a broaching operation by one of the insert support members (25).

  • Patent number: 6662516
Abstract: Reinforced wall structures and methods for strengthening wall structures to more effectively resist damage produced by seismically induced forces are disclosed. According to one embodiment, a method for strengthening a double wall structure comprises forming plural layers of a foamable, adhesive material in the cavity between the two wall portions of the double wall structure to bond together the wall portions. According to another embodiment, a method for strengthening a single wall comprises spacing a sheathing layer from one surface of the wall so as to define a cavity therebetween. A plurality of structural members are positioned outside of the cavity so as to support the inner form. A foamable, adhesive material is introduced into the cavity to bond together the inner form and the wall.
