  • Patent number: 4630587
Abstract: The injection pump includes a pump cylinder, a pump piston moving into it and a hydraulic device for adjusting the instant of injection. The adjusting device has an adjusting cylinder, which is directed parallel to the pump cylinder and is accommodated in the housing of the injection pump, and adjusting piston and a restoring spring and adjusts a control sleeve, which opens the pump piston provided with at least one control recess in the longitudinal direction of the pump piston. This orientation and disposition of the adjusting cylinder effects a space-saving and inexpensive design of the injection pump and improves the precision of adjustment. The adjusting piston and the control sleeve may be directed coaxially and embodied as a single component, as a result of which a further space saving and increase in adjustment precision are attained.

  • Patent number: 4498442
Abstract: A fuel injection pump in which the fuel metering is performed with the aid of an electromechanical fuel metering device with fuel which is at low pressure, and the disposition of the injection with respect to the full compression stroke of the pump piston of the fuel injection pump can be varied by means of a variable withdrawal of fuel at the end of the compression stroke and the resupply of the withdrawn fuel during the intake stroke of the pump piston. A desired injection characteristic can thereby be attained, or a desired, specified portion of a cam elevation curve at which injection is supposed to take place can be selected.

  • Patent number: 4398519
Abstract: A fuel injection apparatus for internal combustion engines is proposed in which the onset and end of injection are determined by a hydraulically actuated control slide. The injection pumps of the apparatus, which are preferably combined with an injection nozzle to make a pump/nozzle unit have a central control pressure pump supplied with fuel by a supply pump. The control pressure pump creates a control pressure (p.sub.S) which is a multiple increase in comparison to the supply pressure (p.sub.V) of the supply pump and actuates the control slide. Each control slide is placed under control pressure (p.sub.S) to initiate the onset of injection via a control line which is separated from the filling lines of the injection pump and closes an overflow channel which leads away from the pump work chamber. At the end of injection the control slide again relieves this overflow channel to a supply line during its return stroke.

  • Patent number: 3965876
Abstract: A fuel injection pump for an internal combustion engine has a pump assembly comprising a piston and cylinder and a structure defining a delivery passage through which fuel is delivered, during an active portion of a delivery stroke of the piston, from the cylinder to a linking passage connected to an injector. The structure also defines a return flow passage for the fuel between the linking passage and the cylinder. A normally closed delivery valve positioned in the delivery passage in alignment with the cylinder is responsive to pressure in the delivery passage to open during the active portion of the delivery stroke of the piston to allow fuel to be delivered to the linking passage.
