  • Patent number: 6505740
Abstract: A package containing an organic solvent or solution and a carrier or applicator sheet is produced from a laminated sheet material having a polypropylene surface layer that is resistant to chemical interaction with the solvent or solution. The package is formed by heat sealing the edges together and providing a resealable closure member along the top end. In one embodiment, the bottom wall is attached to the respective side wall along a seal line extending diagonally from the side edge of the side wall to the bottom edge of the side wall. The carrier sheets and solvent/solution are suitable for cleaning hard surfaces prior to applying a paint or other surface coating or for providing a “highlighting” liquid that helps detect surface finish defects and/or a temporary protective coating to prevent adhesion of weld splatter.

  • Patent number: 6505778
Abstract: A multi-function optical reader comprises an photosensor, such as a charge-device (CCD), and signal conditioning and processing circuitry including separate channels for handling data in different formats. A bar code processing channel digitizes the scan signal according to light and dark features using a first-derivative technique, and an OMR processing channel uses an adaptive threshold to adapt to different light conditions and provide a boundary line for digitizing light and dark features of the target scan line. A feature measurement circuit measures the widths of the light and dark regions as derived by the separate processing channels, and provides the feature measurements to a decoding system or host terminal processor. The scan rate of the optical reader can be adjusted according to the data format to be read or the level of ambient light, to avoid saturation. The optical reader can provide multiple depth-of-field zones, both internal and external to an optical reader housing.

  • Patent number: 6506463
Abstract: Compositions for scavenging oxygen are disclosed. These compositions comprise copolyamides comprising over 50 weight percent polyamide segments and an active oxygen scavenging amount of polyolefin oligomer segments. The polyamide segments comprise segments derived from typical bottling and packaging polyamides such as polyhexamethyleneadipamide and polyphthalamides. The copolymers are preferably formed by transesterification during reactive extrusion and typically comprise about 0.5 to about 12 wt. % of polyolefin oligomer segments. The copolyamides provide enhanced active and passive oxygen barrier properties over similar polyester constructions and similar polyamide constructions, when used in a laminar construction. In a series of preferred embodiments, multi-layered bottles fabricated with the oxygen scavenging copolyatnides of this invention are about 99.8 wt. % polyamide and suitable for recycle with other polyamide bottles.

  • Publication number: 20030009118
Abstract: A hand held massaging devise that allows people to personally massage themselves in hard to reach areas of the back specifically from the neck, around the spine, and all the way down the back including the buttocks. A flexible elastic strap is folded in half, and permanently attached to a piece of durable nylon material that attaches to a solid rubber ball with multiple protrusions radiating outward. The connection between the material and the rubber ball is attached in such a way as to allow the ball to rotate freely in circular, side to side, or up and down motion. The user comfortably holds the elastic strap while leaning back against a wall or flat surface positioning the ball on the part of the back being massaged, applying the desired pressure. The user may also freely massage his or her foot by holding the elastic strap, positioning the ball between the foot and the floor, and moving the foot back and forth while applying pressure.

  • Publication number: 20030006223
Abstract: A heater for a window of an optical gas sensor is provided. The heater may be positioned over a portion of the window or may form at last a portion of the window. Alternatively, the heater may be separate from the optical gas sensor and positionable (e.g., by a transducer) over the window either in contact therewith or in close proximity thereto. The heater may be substantially transparent to the relevant wavelengths of electromagnetic radiation that are used in optical (e.g., infrared or luminescence quenching) monitoring of respiratory gases, anesthetic agents, or the like. Alternatively, the heater may be configured so as to provide a substantially unobstructed optical pathway through the window. Optical gas sensors and complementary transducers that include the heater are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20030008644
Abstract: An apparatus for and method of preventing activation of an audible incoming call indicator is provided. The prevention (307) may be performed at the infrastructure, such as at the mobile switching center (123), by not directing calls to the communication device (119 or 121). The prevention (209) may also be performed at the communication device (119 or 121), such as a cellular phone or pager, by deactivating the audible call indicator and/or turning to a vibrating or other non-audible call indicator.

  • Publication number: 20030009396
Abstract: A global supply chain solution database software package manages inventory levels and tracks internal shipment of parts and products between areas. It may automatically order or reorder inventory from suppliers and ship products to customers. Integrated inventory, tracking, transportation, automated ordering, receiving, sales, shipping, and contract software modules residing on several workstations through the manufacturing process are tied together for accuracy through a central server computer. Time flow analysis and management reporting is provided at every step of the process in standard and custom formats. A secure Internet inventory interface provides visibility from the manufacturer, who may transfer responsibility for controlling its inventory and for providing “just in time”delivery to the supplier. Either the manufacturer or the supplier may control inventory.

  • Publication number: 20030009544
Abstract: The present invention provides a method of performing distributed load testing to a remote web site or software component across a network. Loads are presented to the desired web site or software component from a variety of systems located through out the world. Unlike prior systems which are limited to using commonly owned systems which are on a common intranet, the presently described method is able to utilize a variety of systems from across the world to provide loads from different parts of the world, in effect creating a worldwide community Quality Assurance lab. Utilizing systems selected from a large variety of systems located throughout the world provides a test environment that more accurately emulates a real world environment.

  • Publication number: 20030005696
Abstract: The “Internal Combustion Engine Energy Extractor” is a device that is extracts otherwise wasted heat from both the engine exhaust system and it's cooling system. This heat is converted into mechanical energy, which is 1) used to power the “Extractor” and 2) may be used for auxiliary engine devices, such as an intake air supercharger or an electrical generator. The Energy Extractor by itself 1) increases engine efficiency and power by decreasing exhaust back pressure and 2) decreases engine wear by decreasing the cylinder and engine temperature.

  • Publication number: 20030006729
Abstract: An improved rotary servovalve system employs a rotary magnetic solenoid having an armature that includes at least one permanent magnet. The armature is rotatable relative to a stator formed as an electromagnet which is energizable to create alternative electromagnetic fields having opposite polarities from each other. When deenergized, the stator allows the armature to return to a neutral, null position from positions of extreme rotation in opposite angular directions due to the magnetic force of the permanent magnet of the armature. The armature is coupled to carry a movable valve element in angular rotation therewith, so that flow through the servovalve of the system can occur in alternative directions. Also, the valve element is biased toward a position in which all of the valve ports are closed when power is removed from the rotary solenoid.
