  • Patent number: 4685709
Abstract: A locking system comprises a lock mechanism including a casing structure adapted to be mounted to one of a door and a door frame and having a front plate with an aperture therein; a latch bolt mounted with respect to the casing structure for movement between a first position wherein a portion thereof extends from the front plate of the casing structure for latching engagement with the other of the door and door frame, and a second, retracted position wherein the same portion thereof is held out of position for said latching engagement. A deadlock member is mounted to the casing for movement between a blocking position wherein the deadlock member will prevent movement of the latch bolt to the second, retracted position, and a non-blocking position wherein the latch bolt is free to move to the retracted position. An operating disc is rotatably mounted coaxially with the latch bolt and coupled to rotate the latch bolt through a lost motion type of connection.

  • Patent number: 4679416
Abstract: A lock mechanism includes a casing structure adapted to be mounted to one of a door and a door frame for cooperation with an apertured strike plate mounted to the other of the door and door frame. The lock mechanism further comprises a front plate for the casing structure with a pair of apertures therein and a latch bolt retractably mounted with respect to the casing structure and biased to an extended first position wherein a latching portion thereof extends from one of the front plate apertures for engagement with the strike plate aperture, and movable to a secnd retracted position. The latching portion of the latch bolt has a beveled leading surface located for engagement with the strike plate only when the latch bolt is moved a predetermined amount toward the retracted position.

  • Patent number: 4640112
Abstract: There is disclosed a secured door knob and escutcheon assembly, wherein the assembly is protected against tampering and unauthorized removal from either side of a door, when said door is in the closed position. The assembly includes a knob arrangement having mounting means which includes a bearing sleeve that is threadably engaged with a mounting plate affixed to the door. Rotation of said bearing sleeve is precluded by an apertured escutcheon plate through which said bearing sleeve is engaged. The bearing sleeve and escutcheon aperture have complementary flats or non-round surfaces such that when the escutcheon is in place rotation of the bearing sleeve is precluded. Further, the escutcheon plate is held in place by holding means that can only be released when the door is opened. In the disclosed embodiment the holding means is a key cylinder engaged through a second aperture in the escutcheon plate and fixed in place by a set screw mounted in the edge face of the door.

  • Patent number: 4562664
Abstract: There is disclosed a door position monitoring assembly for a security door installation wherein the assembly can be adjusted and preset from the exterior of the assembly. In this regard, the monitoring assembly includes a base member with switching means carried by the base member and capable of being operated to attain a first condition and a second condition, each of which conditions can be detected by suitable circuit means. A control arm produces operation of the switching means and has one end thereof coupled for movement with said door and the other end piotally mounted to the base member.

  • Patent number: 4429556
Abstract: There is disclosed a knob control arrangement or system whereby the status of a knob associated with a lock mechanism can be controlled from exteriorly of the lock housing and can be selectively rendered active-operable or passive-inoperable. In this regard, when in the passive-inoperable condition, the knob will merely rotate relative to the housing without imparting force or stress to the lock components. This mode of operation is achieved by providing a knob hub rotatably mounted to the lock housing to which a knob member may be affixed. Interiorly of the housing, the knob hub will move relative to a main cam member used to effect operation of the lock mechanism. The knob control arrangement includes means for selectively interconnecting and disconnecting the knob hub and the main cam member, such that when connected, an active-operable condition is attained, and when disconnected, the passive-inoperable mode is achieved.

  • Patent number: 4334388
Abstract: There is disclosed an improved door position monitoring unit for use in a security door installation. The unit includes track means for mounting with respect to a horizontal edge of a door and movable therewith, a circuit component such as a switch mounted with respect to a stationary surface of the door installation, such as the door frame or the threshold. The circuit component is capable of being operated to attain a first condition, and a second condition which conditions can be detected by suitable circuit means. A control arm is provided to mechanically link the door to the switches, said control arm having one end thereof slidably connected to said track means, and being pivotally mounted proximate the other end thereof to the door frame, such that movement of said door will produce pivotal movement of said control arm.

  • Patent number: 4237711
Abstract: There is disclosed a lock mechanism that has been designed to take up a minimum amount of space and thus be accommodatable in a relatively shallow structure. Said lock mechanism includes a pivotally mounted latch bolt, a deadlock member associated with said latch bolt, with biasing means urging said deadlock member to a locking position. To control the operation of the deadlock member there is provided a deadlock trigger and a deadlock position lever providing an operational connection between said trigger and the deadlock member. A primary operating lever as provided comprised of a first pivotally mounted arm portion and a second arm portion integral therewith and connected with the latch bolt by a loss motion connection. The pivot axis for said latch bolt, said primary operating lever and said deadlock member are disposed parallel to and adjacent the front plate of the casing structure, thereby enabling the lock mechanism to be accommodated and to function within a shallow casing structure.

  • Patent number: 4211443
Abstract: An electric strike having a pivotally mounted keeper for engagement by a door lock bolt or the like having a solenoid control, pivotally mounted locking lever and a pivotally mounted locking cam associated with the lever for releasably retaining the lever in blocking relationship to an abutment on the keeper for releasably retaining the keeper in position for engagement by the door lock bolt, thereby enabling the electric strike to be remotely controlled and operated. The locking lever and locking cam are provided with arcuately curved engaging surfaces which precludes the possibility of the locking cam surface being "walked" off of the locking lever by exerting pressure on the keeper while tapping or otherwise impacting the adjacent structure. The curved engaging surfaces of the locking cam and locking lever reduces wear. The solenoid is oriented externally of the casing and can be oriented in different relationships to the casing for installation in various types of doorjambs.

  • Patent number: 4140357
Abstract: A hinge for use with a swinging door provided with an electric lock or other electrically operated device or component therein in which the hinge is provided with chases and hollow hinge barrels sheathing a tubular collar which also serves as a hinge pin and provides a continuous passageway through the hinge for electrical conductors in order to maintain a continuous circuit or circuits through the hinge regardless of the position of the door. Each hinge leaf includes a barrel integral therewith with the barrel and leaf being a one-piece casting. The barrels completely enclose the tubular collar which forms a hollow hinge pin and protects the electrical conductors from attack in the event the leaves and barrels are pried apart.

  • Patent number: 3999411
Abstract: Lock knob control mechanism comprising a three-piece cam assembly made up of a central cam actuator and two outside knob guides that may be selectively assembled to make the two knobs at opposite sides of a door active or inactive. An inactive knob guide makes its knob nonrotatable. An active knob guide cooperates with the central cam actuator and a locking pawl that prevents rotation of its knob but may be rendered inoperative electrically from a remote point by authorized personnel or mechanically in response to actuation of the key for that lock. The knob control also includes a retainer for securing a knob in place on the door which can be released only when the door is open, with a rose for the knob secured to the door by screws that are covered by the knob so that with the door closed there are no visible means for removing the knob.
