In one embodiment, a method comprises: maintaining a folder structure at the host system for data items received for a user from one or more senders, the data items being directed to an address associated with the user at the host system, the folder structure having one or more folders in a hierarchical arrangement; determining occurrence of a change in at least one of the folders associated with the user; and responsive to the occurrence of the change, transmitting at least one of a command message and a data message to the user via the wireless network.

Abstract: A scheme for message status indicator synchronization operable with a mobile data communication device. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: upon receiving a message over a wireless network for a user, determining that the message is a redirected message facilitated by a redirector component associated with a messaging server for the user having a mail address thereat, wherein the determining is based on verifying a redirection flag associated with the message; presenting at least a portion of the message to the user; generating a status signal responsive to a change in the message's status upon the presenting; and transmitting the status signal to the redirector component.

Abstract: A scheme for redirecting messages from a messaging system to a mobile communication device associated with a user having a mail address at the messaging system. Abstract: A scheme for synchronizing message folders between a messaging system and a mobile communication device. An embodiment comprises one or more of the following: upon establishment of a communication link between the messaging system and the mobile communication device, retrieving and tagging a source folder structure from a data store associated with the messaging system and updating a target folder structure on the mobile communication device based on the source folder structure. Thereafter, messages stored on the messaging system and the mobile communication device are compared to find matches that are moved within the respective folder structures based on a move flag status scheme.

Abstract: The present invention includes embodiments of an apparatus and method for selecting a line from two or more lines on a communication device. The communication device comprises a display module, an input module, a line selection module, and a communication module for making a call over a network to a target recipient. The method comprises the steps of storing line selection information; monitoring the input module for initiation of a call to the target recipient; upon detecting the initiation of the call, selecting a line from the at least two lines in the line selection module, the selected line is dependent on said line selection information; and making the call to the target recipient on the selected line.

Abstract: A call forwarding user interface for a mobile communication device provides selective access to pre-stored identifying data (e.g., an address book) for a user to define one or more call forwarding destinations for predetermined call forwarding conditions. Call forwarding profiles of such identifying data may also be defined and stored for subsequent selective actuation. Such interface features facilitate user-defined call forwarding functions with reduced requirements for memorization and/or reference to written or printed records.

Abstract: A system and method of pushing user-selected data items from a host system to a user's mobile data communication device upon detecting the occurrence of one or more user-defined event triggers is provided. The user may then move (or file) the data items to a particular folder within a folder hierarchy stored in the mobile data communication device, or may execute some other system operation on the data item. Software operating at the mobile device and the host system then synchronizes the folder hierarchy of the mobile device with a folder hierarchy of the host system, and any actions executed on the data items at the mobile device are then automatically replicated on the same data items stored at the host system, thus eliminating the need for the user to manually replicate actions at the host system that have been executed at the mobile data communication device.

The user interface system is operative to receive a data element wherein the data element identifies the type of communications message received and sender identification, display a menu upon receiving the data element, wherein the menu comprises a selectable object with the selectable object having a label identifying the message type, receive a data item indicating selection of the selectable object and generate a communications action in response to selection of the selectable object.
