Patent number: 9924358Abstract: A method and apparatus for authenticating a wireless connection between a first device and a second device. In a first aspect, the first device generates a changing passkey code and converts the passkey code to an audio file that is played through a speaker of the first device as an audible signal. A user hears the audible signal and enters the passkey code into a keyboard of the second device. The second device sends the entered code to the first device for authentication. In a second aspect, the first device generates a passkey code and displays the code on a screen. A user speaks the code aloud to a microphone on the second device. The second device converts the speech into text and then sends the converted speech to the first device for authentication. If the codes of the first or second aspect match, the wireless connection is authenticated.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2016Date of Patent: March 20, 2018Assignee: Intel CorporationInventors: Raz Weizman, Liraz Goldenthal, Alex Itkin

Patent number: 9686649Abstract: Methods and apparatus for determining device location in crowded indoor environments. A mobile device is configured to determine its location using a Wi-Fi Time of Flight (ToF)-based location scheme. Once the device determines it location, it may broadcast its location to nearby devices using a low energy location sharing mechanism that employs low energy broadcast signals identifying the location of the device. The low energy broadcast signals may be used by other devices having a similar configuration, as well as devices that don't use the ToF-based location scheme to determine their locations using RSSI measurements and multi-lateration and/or have such capabilities disabled. The location of a device may be updated by fusing location data derived from the ToF-based location scheme with location data received from nearby devices that are broadcasting their locations using the low energy location sharing mechanism.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2015Date of Patent: June 20, 2017Assignee: Intel IP CorporationInventors: Raz Weizman, Noam S. Brousard, Liraz Goldenthal, Idan Gutman

Publication number: 20160007289Abstract: The disclosure relates to a method, apparatus and system to filter undesired or redundant messages to thereby conserve energy in wireless devices. In one embodiment, energy is conserved through a successive series of data filters which identify the incoming signals (e.g, advertisement) and determine whether to ignore or to direct the advertisement packet to a higher level data filtering system. The disclosed embodiments conserve energy by maintaining complex processors in sleep mode until the need arises. In another embodiment, external source provide information to the filtering system. In still another embodiment, information from different sources are fused together to provide input to the filtering criteria.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 7, 2014Publication date: January 7, 2016Inventors: Raz Weizman, Eddy Kvetny

Publication number: 20150282088Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to a method, apparatus and a system for utilizing received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values obtained from null data packets exchanges between a pair of Bluetooth (BT) devices to determine whether to maintain BT connection. In one embodiment, the disclosure relates to a method for maintaining a BT connection between a host and a periphery device by receiving at a controller associated with a host device a plurality of null packets sent from the periphery device; determining a received signal strength (RSSI) value for each of the plurality of received nulled packets; and determining whether to maintain connection with the periphery device as a function of the determined RSSI values.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2014Publication date: October 1, 2015Inventors: Raz Weizman, Eddy Kvetny
