  • Patent number: 11630637
Abstract: Various aspects include portable speakers and methods of controlling such speakers. In a particular implementation, a portable loudspeaker includes: a controller configured to control an audio output according to at least two distinct equalization profiles and in at least two distinct physical orientations, where the controller is configured to switch between two of the distinct equalization profiles in response to detecting a change in physical orientation of the portable loudspeaker between two of the distinct physical orientations, where the switch between the two distinct equalization profiles is either: a) modified by a hysteresis factor, or b) smoothed according to a predefined pattern.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 2, 2021
Date of Patent: April 18, 2023
    Assignee: Bose Corporation
Inventors: Kyle Brian McNicholas, Nabin Sagar Sharma, Michael Stephen Danielson, Paul Larsen, Rebecca Kowalczyk, Meir Mechtinger

  • Patent number: 10021470
Abstract: A microphone has a sensing element; a casing surrounds the microphone with an opening that admits sound to the sensing element in a first direction. A spark director includes a first portion spaced away from the casing in a direction opposite the first direction, and a second portion extending from the first portion towards the casing and terminating in a tip separated from the casing by an air gap. An electric charge in the first portion of the spark director will be discharged by the second portion of the spark director through the air gap into the casing at a location other than at the opening.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 3, 2016
Date of Patent: July 10, 2018
    Assignee: Bose Corporation

  • Patent number: 9712911
Abstract: The technology described in the document can be embodied in a speaker that includes one or more drivers, and an acoustic horn that includes a first side panel and a second side panel. Edges of the first and second side panels defines an opening for receiving acoustic outputs from one or more drivers. The speaker also includes a manifold disposed between the opening and the one or more drivers, the manifold including a plurality of acoustic passages for connecting the opening to each of the one or more drivers, and an adaptor. The adaptor is disposed between the manifold and the acoustic horn, and includes multiple apertures for the plurality of acoustic passages. The adaptor is configured to conform to a profile of the opening while maintaining a seal between the acoustic horn and the plurality of acoustic passages.
