  • Patent number: 5558268
Abstract: A welding mechanism for build up of a conical surface includes a base assembly with a base gear fixedly mounted thereto, and a slide rail assembly rotatable about a base axis. The slide rail assembly includes a slide rail positionable parallel to the conical surface, a slide carriage moveable along the slide rail, carrying a welding torch, a rotatable lead screw in threaded engagement with the slide carriage, and a carriage gear rotatable with the lead screw and engaged with the base gear. Rotation of the slide rail assembly moves the torch on the slide carriage circumferentially along the conical surface, and, simultaneously, rotation of the slide carriage assembly, by inter-engagement of the carriage and base gears, causes the slide carriage to move along the slide rail carrying the torch radially along the conical surface, the torch moving in a spiral path, about the base axis, along the surface.

  • Patent number: 5298710
Abstract: An apparatus for weld build-up on a surface of revolution within a bore has a head assembly, an elongated line shaft, a step assembly and a traveling assembly. The head assembly has a housing that may be fixedly mounted in a region spaced from the surface of revolution, the housing defining a chamber with an axis in alignment with an axis of revolution. It also has a spindle mounted for rotation within the chamber, coaxial with the axis of revolution. The line shaft is coupled to the spindle and extends for coaxial rotation within the bore in a region of the surface of revolution. The step assembly is fixedly mounted upon the line shaft. The traveling assembly is mounted also upon the line shaft and disposed for rotation within the bore. The traveling assembly consists of a wire reel, a wire feeder, and an electrical welding torch assembly that terminates in a torch nozzle.

  • Patent number: 4952769
Abstract: Apparatus for weld build-up on a surface of revolution consists of an elongated, rotatable assembly that supports, at one end, an electrical welding torch (10) terminating in a nozzle, the rotatable assembly introduction electrical welding current, inert gas, and welding wire to the torch, and including an electrically conductive, hollow, metal drive spindle. The drive spindle (200) applies driving motion and conducts electrical current for transmission to the torch, and the gas and welding wire pass through the spindle to the torch. Also, an electrically conductive carrier (110) is mounted in a radially adjustable, electrically continuous, offset relationship to a conductive body (140) joined to the end of a spindle, and a torch held is in electrically conductive relationship by the carrier, the electrically conductive body and carrier together defining a gas tight passage (FIG.

  • Patent number: 4687899
Abstract: A welding apparatus is disclosed for circular welding an outer surface or a bore surface of a metallic object. The apparatus consists of a rotatable spindle, a rotatable power connector connected to the spindle, and an offset adjustment device connecting the spindle to an orbital welding torch. A weld nozzle is provided at one end of the torch. A wire feed device is connected to the spindle. The welding apparatus is provided with a wire transmission conduit, a gas transmission conduit and an electrical power transmission conduit for guiding wire, gas and electrical power to the rotatable power connector, and on to the rotatable spindle and torch. A wire feed device is provided for feeding wire from a supply and the entire supply is mounted for rotation with the welding torch about the path of feed of the wire.
