Patent number: 7496379Abstract: A system and process for updating files on a wireless mobile device is provided. The wireless mobile device has an RF(radio frequency) card which cooperates with a wireless network to provide wireless communication. In one example, the wireless network maintains a message contact list on a network server. The message contact list contains address information useful for sending textual, video, audio, or image messages through the wireless network. When the wireless mobile device is activated on the network, the message contact list is transmitted to the wireless mobile device. The wireless mobile device is then able to use the message contact list to generate and transmit messages.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2005Date of Patent: February 24, 2009Assignee: Kyocera Wireless Corp.Inventors: Diego Kaplan, Refael Bar

Publication number: 20060178159Abstract: An push-to-talk wireless communication device and method of facilitating a push-to-talk call are disclosed. The wireless communication device includes a voice recognition module that allows a user to establish and carry out a push-to-talk call through voice commands. The voice recognition module facilitates a push to talk call by establishing a push-to-talk call in response to a voice command. During the call, the voice recognition module identifies predetermined code words from the audio stream and manages the push-to-talk call functions accordingly.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2005Publication date: August 10, 2006Inventors: Don Timms, Refael Bar

Patent number: 6445523Abstract: A storage media is disclosed and comprises a storage body and a readable indelible mark formed in the body such that portions thereof are indelibly altered. The mark is read by writing first data to the body in the region of the mark, and reading second data from the body in such region. The written first data is not accepted where the portions of the body are indelibly altered. Accordingly, the read second data corresponds to the written first data with segments thereof missing. The missing segments of the first data correspond to the portions of the body indelibly altered. In a preferred embodiment, the storage media comprises a magnetic rotatable disk having a substantially planar substrate and a magnetizable layer deposited thereon. The reading and writing are therefore performed magnetically.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2001Date of Patent: September 3, 2002Assignee: Iomega CorporationInventors: Fred C. Thomas, III, Refael Bar, Daniel Alfonsi, Dai Feng, Jeff G. Carter, Charlie M. Monroe, Jr., Ronald F. Hales, George T. Krieger

Patent number: 6145034Abstract: A tape drive method and system for backing up data files from a hard drive to a tape drive or restoring data files to a hard drive from a tape drive. The data transfer rate of the tape drive is adjusted to minimize the number of times the tape drive switches off to wait for the hard drive to catch up to the tape drive. By minimizing the number of off occurrences of the tape drive, the back-up or restoration operation is completed more quickly.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: November 7, 2000Assignee: Iomega CorporationInventor: Refael Bar

Patent number: 6057973Abstract: A tape drive comprising a processor which determines a position to which to move a recording tape without detecting inter-segment gaps on the tape. The tape drive includes a drive motor which periodically outputs pulses during rotation. The rotation of the motor and the displacement of the tape are linearly related. When the processor receives an instruction to move the tape a predetermined number of segments, the number of segments is converted into a length based on the format of the tape. The length is correlated to a total number of motor pulses to be counted as the tape is moved in order to stop the tape at proper location.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: May 2, 2000Inventor: Refael Bar

Patent number: 6031698Abstract: A tape cartridge has a tape detection means embedded therein. The tape detection means comprises a plurality of tape identification holes, preferably in octal 06 arrangement, and a single load point hole located about 30 inches from the nearest set of beginning of tape holes. A method of detecting a tape cartridge with a tape detection means embedded therein comprises the steps of: locating a set of beginning of tape holes; locating a load point hole that is 30 inches from the nearest set of beginning of tape holes; measuring the length of tape between the load point hole and the beginning of tape holes; if the length of tape is between 28 and 32 inches determining whether tape identification holes in octal 06 arrangement are present; and identifying the tape as a valid tape cartridge if the length of tape is between 28 and 32 inches and tape identification holes in octal 06 arrangement are present.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1997Date of Patent: February 29, 2000Assignee: Iomega CorporationInventor: Refael Bar

Patent number: 5986843Abstract: A tape drive writes/reads tapes written in a format which stores an increased amount of data because the tracks overlap. The wide write/narrow read heads read a center portion of each track which does not have overlap. The new format is identified by the positions of a reference burst, by encryption of the bad sector map, and by alteration of the tape signature to prevent unqualified drives and software from operating upon tapes in the new format.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1997Date of Patent: November 16, 1999Assignee: Iomega CorporationInventor: Refael Bar

Patent number: 5268802Abstract: A magnetic tape drive has firmware which has been modified so that the drive will read both standard format tapes and non-standard format tapes. Non-standard tapes are detected by an absence of reference bursts in the load zone of the tape. The head is moved to successive tracks toward the edge of the tape until no data is read. This identifies the track near the edge of the tape. Then, the head is preset to a track which is a known distance from the edge of the tape. Reading of non-standard tapes is accomplished by disabling the index pulse generator in the intervals between data segments. The performance of a SKIP COMMAND is made possible by counting the transitions of data to no data during the intervals between data segments. The identification of different types of non-standard formats is made by determining the length of the data segments.Type: GrantFiled: May 28, 1991Date of Patent: December 7, 1993Assignee: Iomega CorporationInventor: Refael Bar

Patent number: RE35205Abstract: A magnetic tape drive has firmware which has been modified so that the drive will read both standard formal tapes and non-standard format tapes. Non-standard tapes are detected by an absence of reference bursts in the load zone of the tape. The head is moved to successive tracks toward the edge of the tape until no data is read. This identifies the track near the edge of the tape. Then, the head is preset to a track which is a known distance from the edge of the tape.
