Patent number: 8619665Abstract: Solutions are described that enable a user equipment (UE) for a communication system always to derive required identifiers using an international mobile subscriber identity (IMSI) even when the UE has only a subscriber identity module. One solution is based on a table, or list, that is maintained in the UE. Another solution is based on always taking a predetermined number of digits of the IMSI. Yet another solution is based on try-and-fail signaling. In consequence, the UE does not always need to know how many digits of the IMSI are used to indicate a mobile network code, which in some situations is impossible to know anyway.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 2007Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Anne-Lott Hedberg, Christian Herrero Verón, Regina Johannesson

Patent number: 8351973Abstract: A mobile station receives data for sending to a destination device and determines whether to send the data to the destination device via either short message service (SMS) over service access point identifier 0 (SAPI-0) or SMS over SAPI-3, where SAPI-0 and SAPI-3 comprise different service access points associated with a data link layer of a mobile network. The mobile station selectively sends the location information to the destination device via either SMS over SAPI-0, or via SMS over SAPI-3, based on the determination.Type: GrantFiled: June 11, 2009Date of Patent: January 8, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Regina Johannesson, Anne-Lott Hedberg, Paul Schliwa-Bertling, Karl Hellwig

Patent number: 8155651Abstract: A user equipment (UE) includes a resettable timer that clocks a period after a successful packet-switched handover in a communication system. If a command message for setting packet-data transmission parameters is not received from the network before the period elapses, the UE starts a transmission-parameter negotiation if the UE wishes to do so. In this way, a UE can negotiate optimal parameters for packet-data transmission.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2007Date of Patent: April 10, 2012Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Regina Johannesson, Christian Herrero-Verón

Publication number: 20100278164Abstract: A method comprising operating a base station is disclosed. The operating consists of providing synchronisation for mobile stations; and broadcasting information comprising information about an access point enabling generic access network, GAN, communication, from the base station operating a pure broadcasting telecommunication cell. An access area of the access point and the pure broadcasting telecommunication cell cover essentially the same area. Therefore, mobile stations able to receive the broadcasting information become aware of accessibility to the access point. Corresponding base station, mobile station, telecommunication system, and computer program are also disclosed.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2008Publication date: November 4, 2010Inventors: Anne-Lott Hedberg, Regina Johannesson

Publication number: 20080037586Abstract: A communication interface and a method for establishing the communication interface for communications between a mobile station and a serving network node over a Gb interface in a GSM network are described herein. The communication interface comprises control logic, a network layer having a plurality of NSAPIs, and a link layer having a plurality of user-data SAPIs. The number of NSAPIs equals the number of user-data SAPIs. In one embodiment, the number of NSAPIs is limited to equal the number of user-data SAPIs. In another embodiment, the number of SPAIs is expanded to equal the number of NSAPIs. In both cases, the control logic performs one-to-one mapping between the NSAPIs and the user-data SAPIs.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 13, 2007Publication date: February 14, 2008Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Christian Herrero-Veron, Regina Johannesson

Publication number: 20070232306Abstract: A method for selecting a public land mobile network (PLMN) from a plurality of available PLMNs more particularly, one embodiment of the invention includes the steps of transmitting, via a mobile network, information related to the plurality of available PLMNs. The method further includes the step of receiving, at a mobile station, the information related to the plurality of available PLMNs, and responsive to the step of receiving, sending, to the mobile network, of a Non-Access-Stratum (NAS) signaling message including an identification data for selecting one PLMN from the plurality of available PLMNs. This Abstract is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims. 37 CFR 1.72(b).Type: ApplicationFiled: May 25, 2007Publication date: October 4, 2007Inventors: Regina Johannesson, Christian Veron

Patent number: 7020455Abstract: The invention protects the security of a communication between a mobile radio and a radio access network (RAN). A connection is established through the RAN to support a communication with the mobile radio. The connection is configured with a first security configuration. One or more messages are sent over the connection using the first security configuration, each message having a message sequence number. When the connection needs to be configured to a second security configuration, an activation message sequence number associated with the reconfiguration is set. When the reconfiguration process is complete and the second security configuration is to be activated, the next message is sent over the connection with the activation message sequence number. Until that time and during the reconfiguration, when the mobile radio transmits a message with a message sequence number lower than the activation message sequence number to the RAN, it uses the first security configuration.Type: GrantFiled: September 30, 2002Date of Patent: March 28, 2006Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ainkaran Krishnarajah, Hakan Palm, Regina Johannesson, Anders Berggren

Publication number: 20020119774Abstract: A method for selecting a public land mobile network to serve a mobile station includes the step of receiving at the mobile station a list of data associated with networks neighboring the PLMN currently serving the mobile station. A new PLMN to serve the mobile station is selected based upon the list of data, and the mobile station changes to the selected new PLMN.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 4, 2001Publication date: August 29, 2002Inventors: Regina Johannesson, Anne-Lott Hedberg
