  • Publication number: 20150165898
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a tandem axle for a machine. The tandem axle includes a first wheel end adapted to receive a first wheel and a second wheel end adapted to receive a second wheel. The second wheel end is spaced from the first wheel end. A bogey assembly is coupled between the first wheel end and the second wheel end. The bogey assembly includes a planetary differential disposed along a main axis and is individually coupled to the first and second wheel ends. The planetary differential includes an input for receiving power along the main axis and a first output and a second output such that the first output is coupled to the first wheel end for transferring power to the first wheel end and the second output is coupled to the second wheel end for transferring power to the second wheel end.

  • Publication number: 20140139009
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a final drive assembly for powering a wheel of a machine. The final drive assembly includes a hub adapted to support the wheel, a spindle casting coupled to the hub and a bearing disposed within the hub. The spindle casting at least partially defines a steering axis about which the wheel pivots. The final drive assembly also includes an electric motor disposed within the bearing, the electric motor positioned between the spindle casting and hub.

  • Patent number: 8640812
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a front axle of a vehicle including a motor disposed near the center of the axle and a shaft coupled at one end thereof to the motor, where the shaft defines a first axis. A first gear is coupled to a second gear, the first gear being coupled to the shaft at an end opposite the motor and being disposed along the first axis. The second gear is disposed along a second axis, where the first axis and second axis are substantially parallel to but spaced from one another. A steering pivot defines a steering axis about which a final drive assembly pivots and a wheel lean pivot defines a lean axis about which the final drive pivots. The lean axis is substantially perpendicular to the steering axis. A constant-velocity joint is disposed at the intersection of the steering axis and lean axis.
