Abstract: A frame is provided which includes vertically adjustable main support arms for receiving a bar bell prior to exercising. The support arms include a unique combined brace and camming feature for guiding the bar clear of the support arms during exercising. The frame includes adjustable side frames which provide auxiliary safety support for a bar bell should an exerciser be unable to return the bar bell to the main support arms following exercising.

Abstract: A safety device for use in conjunction with bench press exercises is disclosed wherein a pair of arms controllable by the exerciser may be elevated into engagement with a bar bell to raise it clear of the exerciser before it can seriously injure him should he be unable, due to fatigue, to raise the bar bell to its normal support pegs above the bench. The elevating mechanism may be a power operated jack or counter weights normally controlled by a jack.

Abstract: The invention is a multi-purpose exercise bench that can be readily converted to any one of eight different uses quickly and without the use of tools. The bench of the invention eliminates the expense and required space for a variety of different units heretofore necessary for performing all of the exercises which can be accomplished on the single bench of the invention.
