Abstract: A personal conveyance (1) for recreational use includes a baseplate (4) having provision for attachment of at least two axle assemblies (5). The axle assemblies (5) are adapted to receive large diameter wheels (6) which extend above and perpendicular to the plane of the baseplate (4). The position and size of the wheels (6) contribute to improved overall stability, an improved ride over a variety of uneven surfaces, provide the potential for improved speed, provide ankle protection and yet afford the user with the ability to retain directional control. The invention may be in the form of roller skates, a skateboard, in-line skates or a scooter. It also includes steering and braking elements (8). The personal conveyance (1) may also include a lowered centre of gravity which contributes to further improved stability and again lessens the likelihood for injury to the ankles of users.
