  • Patent number: 7477914
Abstract: A wireless network allocates special base-station resources to mobile user devices in the inter-station overlapping fringes that are also serviceable by a neighboring base-station. Included-fringe mobile user devices interoperate with a base-station that has been assigned to handle those particular mobile user devices. If a central controller has assigned another base-station to service them, they are referred to as an excluded-fringe mobile user device. Mobile user devices that are not visible to other base-stations can access the general base-station resources, but not any of the special base-station resources reserved for overlapping fringe area use. If no mobile user devices are operating in the overlapping fringe areas, then all the special base-station resources can be returned to the main pool of general base-station resources. A global scheduler, one part of split-level scheduling, in the central controller determines the amount of special and general base-station resources.

  • Publication number: 20080310365
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for caching content in a wireless communication network. The method includes receiving a request for a content at a first base station from a mobile station. In response to receiving the request for the content, the first base station caches a first fragment of the content. The first fragment includes a plurality of packets. Further, the first base station transmits one or more packets of the plurality of packets corresponding to the first fragment to the mobile station. The method further includes initiating a handover of the mobile station to at least one second base station. The at least one base station caches a remaining plurality of packets corresponding to the first fragment of the content in response to the handover.

  • Publication number: 20080273498
Abstract: The present invention provides methods and systems for transmitting content in a wireless communication network. The method includes caching a content in each base station of a set of base stations in the wireless communication network. The content includes a plurality of packets. In response to caching the content, a first base station belonging to the set of base stations transmits a first group of packets of the content to a mobile station. The method further includes handing over the mobile station to a second base station. The second base station belongs to the set of the base stations. The second base station resumes transmission of a second group of packets of the content to the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20080139211
Abstract: A method of managing communication in the wireless communication network having a plurality of Base Stations (BSs) is provided. Each BS provides communication to one or more Mobile Stations (MSs) in an associated cell. The method includes re-using at a BS, channel allocated to collocated BSs to communicate with MSs located in a first predetermined region in a cell of the BS. The method further includes scheduling MSs located in the first predetermined region based on the position of each MS relative to the BS. The MSs are scheduled using one or more of channels allocated to the collocated BSs and a native channel of the BS. Further, the method includes scheduling MSs located in a second predetermined region based on the position of each MS relative to the BS. The MSs in the second predetermined region are scheduled using the native channel of the BS.

  • Publication number: 20080125161
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for positioning one or more anchor nodes or one or more non-anchor nodes in one or more communication networks. A non-anchor node may be in communication with two or more anchor nodes. The method comprises determining two or more distance measurements, corresponding to raw distances of the non-anchor node from the two or more anchor nodes, at predetermined intervals of time. An estimated distance is then calculated between the two or more anchor nodes based on the two or more distance measurements. Estimated distances between a plurality of anchor nodes in the one or more communication networks is calculated in a similar manner. A partial distance matrix is then populated using the estimated distance between the plurality of anchor nodes. A plurality of geographic coordinates of the plurality of anchor nodes is reconstructed based on the partial distance matrix.
