A smartphone application, in addition to the features of the email method, includes a personalized text messaging feature for reaching out to others for social support.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for motivating heavy drinking college students to reduce their drinking and alcohol-related problems by utilizing a computer-based software program to screen for heavy drinking and for those who screen positive, provide a comprehensive assessment of drinking and alcohol-related problems, provide personalized feedback to the user with relevant norms, assist users in resolving their ambivalence about changing, and help them develop a plan of action to achieve the goals of drinking less and having fewer alcohol-related problems. The method includes a way for University administrators to implement the system on a campus-wide basis, customize the system to their specific campus and its needs, manage the dataset, and generate outcome reports that measure pertinent clinical outcomes of the program.
