  • Patent number: 10144356
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for condensation detection for vehicle surfaces via light transmitters and receivers. An example vehicle includes a side mirror including a front surface and a back surface, a light transmitter adjacent to the front surface for emitting a light beam toward the side mirror, a first light sensor adjacent to the back surface for detecting a first light intensity of the light beam, and an opaqueness detector that determines whether condensation is on the side mirror based upon the first light intensity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 24, 2017
Date of Patent: December 4, 2018
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Reid William Kaufman Worthen, Victoria Leigh Schein

  • Publication number: 20180272936
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for detection and presentation of obstructed vehicle views. An example vehicle includes a first side mirror, a first camera adjacent to the first side mirror, a first sensor module to detect opaque material on the first side mirror, an obstruction identifier to determine whether viewing of a first area via the first side mirror is obstructed, and a display to present, via the camera, the first area responsive to the obstruction identifier determining viewing via the first side mirror is obstructed.

  • Publication number: 20180272945
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for condensation detection for vehicle surfaces via ambient light. An example vehicle includes a side mirror including a front surface and a back surface, a front sensor adjacent the front surface for collecting a first ambient light intensity, a back sensor adjacent the back surface for collecting a second ambient light intensity, and an opaqueness detector that detects whether condensation is on the side mirror based upon comparing the first ambient light intensity and the second ambient light intensity.

  • Patent number: 10053059
Abstract: Method and apparatus are disclosed for detection and identification of opaqueness of vehicle windows. An example vehicle includes a window including an interior surface and an exterior surface, a light transmitter to emit light, and light sensors to measure the light. The light sensors include a first sensor offset from and a second sensor aligned with the interior surface. The light sensors also include a third sensor offset from and a fourth sensor aligned with the exterior surface. The example vehicle also includes a controller for detecting a source of opaqueness of the window via the light sensors.
