  • Patent number: 6109218
Abstract: An apparatus for regulating the coolant circuit for an internal combustion engine is equipped with a radiator and a heating system heat exchanger, a water pump, and a thermostat valve which makes possible two circuits in the warmup phase of the engine or at low engine temperatures, one circuit being provided for cooling the engine via a bypass line, and a second circuit being provided to the heating system heat exchanger via a heating system line. A differential pressure valve, regulated as a function of engine speed, is arranged in the bypass line, the bypass line being blocked, and all of the coolant being passed through the heating system line, in the warmup phase or in the phase with a low engine temperature when the speed of the engine is low; and the differential pressure valve opening and uncovering the bypass line at higher engine speeds, a quantitative distribution of the coolant occurring via the bypass line and the heating system line as a function of the design of the differential pressure valve.

  • Patent number: 5161499
Abstract: A V-type internal-combustion engine has two banks of cylinders, each with a cylinder-head housing which is covered by cylinder-head cover and, on each end face, by an end cover. Camshafts are driven via chain wheels by a common chain which is led through a free space between the two banks of cylinders in a well housing. To reduce jumps in sealing surfaces which present sealing problems, the well housing is arranged at a distance from the parting planes between the cylinder-head housings and cylinder-head covers and is fastened solely between the cylinder-head housings and the end covers.

  • Patent number: 4773225
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the load-dependent control of a turbocharger which is arranged in an internal combustion engine, a turbocharger includes an adjustable turbine guide apparatus which is adapted to be moved by way of an adjusting drive in the direction closing position or in the direction opening position. In order to be able to keep the response time of the turbocharger minimal during positive load changes with an optimum fuel consumption, the turbine guide apparatus is initially guided along a first predetermined characteristic curve in the direction closing position and subsequently in dependence on the charging pressure increase conditioned on the load increase according to a second predetermined characteristic curve again in the opening direction.

  • Patent number: 4561634
Abstract: A sealing arrangement of the cylinder head with respect to the cylinder block by means of a flat seal which is constructed as intermediate plate and extends from the edge of the cylinder bore also up to its cylinder axis; essentially only circular openings for disk valves are provided in the intermediate plate so that the latter represents a thermal insulation of the combustion space with respect to the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 4409935
Abstract: A mechanical valve clearance compensator for internal combustion engines with cup tappet operation. A wedge provided with a wedge-shaped surface is supported in the cup tappet to be displaceable at right angles to a travel direction of the cup tappet. The wedge is under a constant action of a compression spring which acts in a direction toward clearance compensation and is intermittently acted upon in an opposite direction by an operating cam fixedly connected with the cam shaft. The operating cam is fashioned as a radial cam and acts upon a pin longitudinally displaceably guided in the cup tappet. The pin, in turn, is supported on a sliding surface of a wedge, with the sliding surface having a greater inclination than an inclination of the wedge-shaped surface.

  • Patent number: 4377992
Abstract: An internal combustion engine provided with a mass balance unit of the second order. The mass balance unit includes two balancing shafts with each of the balancing shafts being provided with balancing weights. The balancing shafts are arranged on respective sides of the crankshaft of the engine and extend in parallel thereto. The balancing shafts are driven with a chain by a sprocket wheel seated on the crankshaft with one of the shafts being directly driven for rotation in the direction of rotation of the crankshaft and the other rotating, through the interposition of a pair of gear wheels, in a direction in opposition to the direction of rotation of the crankshaft. The directly driven balancing shaft with sprocket wheel is mounted on an inside of the lid covering an opening of the crankcase of the engine. The other balancing shaft is supported on a bearing cover for the crankshaft and the driving is effected from a sprocket wheel attached to a crank web of the crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 4186704
Abstract: An installation for preheating the suction or intake mixture of a carburetor internal combustion engine by means of an exhaust gas branch line branching off from an exhaust gas pipe system that is equipped with an exhaust gas manifold, and extending along parts of the suction pipe system in heat-exchanging relationship therewith, and which also includes a closure valve controlling the exhaust gas partial stream flowing through the branch line; a part of the exhaust gas pipe system is constructed as Venturi pipe of a gas jet pump and the exhaust gas branch line is connected downstream of the heat-exchange area with an annular space of the gas jet pump surrounding the Venturi pipe so that by the suction in the gas jet pump the branched-off exhaust gas partial stream is sucked back into the remaining exhaust gas stream, while the closure valve is arranged in the exhaust gas branch line.

  • Patent number: 4177689
Abstract: A chain drive, especially for the control drive of internal combustion engines with a tensioning member engaging at a non-loaded chain section. In addition to this tensioning member, a further tensioning member is provided which engages at another chain section and whose tensioning movement is derived from the first tensioning member.
