Abstract: Process for the production of multi-layer lacquer coatings by electrophoretic deposition of a first coating layer of a first, aqueous coating composition onto an electrically conductive substrate, application of a second coating layer based on a second, powder coating composition and joint baking of the coating layers so obtained, which process is characterised in that a powder coating composition is used for the second coating layer which is based on binders which contain no diene-based polymer units, wherein the coating composition is selected such that the minimum baking temperature range of the second coating layer is above that of the first coating layer or overlaps with this range in such a manner that the lower limit of the range of the second coating layer is above the lower limit of the range of the first coating layer.

Abstract: A thermosetting coating composition containingA) one or more binders convertible into liquid or dissolved form at least at the curing temperature and containing acidic groups, basic groups or ionic groups of similar charge,B) one or more binders convertible into liquid or dissolved form at least at the curing temperature and containing basic groups where (A) contains acidic groups, acidic groups where (A) contains basic groups or ionic groups of like charge opposite to the charge of the ionic groups of (A), binder (B) being noninterdiffusible under storage and application conditions, but interdiffusible with binder (A) under hardening conditions, andC) optionally standard solvents, pigments and/or typical paint auxiliaries and/or additives which do not lead to any interdiffusion of the binders A) and B) under storage and application conditions,and a process for the production of coatings by application of the coating composition and subsequent thermal curing.

Abstract: A cathodically precipitable aqueous electro-dipcoating agent which includes as Component A, 50 to 99% by mass (relative to the total quantity of Components A and B) of a synthetic resin binder having tertiary amino groups and hydroxyl groups which can be rendered water soluble by protonation with acids, and which(a) has an amine number of 35 to 120,(b) has a hydroxyl number of 50 to 400,(c) has substantially no primary, secondary and quaternary amino groups,(d) has substantially no free isocyanate groups, and(e) has substantially no blocked isocyanate groups which can react at baking temperatures of up to 200.degree. C. with hydroxyl groups present in the reaction components.The agent also includes as Component B, 1 to 50% by mass (relative to the total quantity of Components A and B) of substantially non-acid synthetic resins having at least two terminal esterified carboxyl groups which can react under normal lacquer baking conditions with Component A, accompanied by cross-linkage.
