  • Patent number: 9258452
Abstract: Systems and methods scan a previously printed sheet using a scanner to create an original scan, and evaluate the original scan to identify marks printed on the printed sheet. For example, any marks, such as the straight and curved marks located in separation areas (areas separating data areas of the printed sheet) of the printed sheet can be evaluated using a specialized image processor. Then, these systems and methods alter the pixels of such marks to add security features (e.g., microtext, microprinting, etc.) to the marks that identify the time, place, and user of the scanner, and this process produces an altered scan. Rather than outputting the original scan, these systems and methods instead substitute the altered scan in place of the original scan and, therefore, output the altered scan from the image processor in place of the original scan.

  • Patent number: 9245209
Abstract: A method of defining a three-dimensional structure having multiple facets, such as a package, identifies an image that is to be printed on a first facet. It also identifies a second facet of the package that has a functional relationship with the first facet, determines whether the functional relationship is that of a crease, an edge, or another functional relationship, and automatically defines a bleed area by accessing a rule set and applying the rule set to the determined functional relationship. The bleed area includes an area in which the first image will be printed and that is outside of the location of the first facet.

  • Publication number: 20160012324
Abstract: A system generates a secure barcode by: identifying a primary pattern for a two-dimensional barcode to be printed on a substrate, wherein the primary pattern comprises of a set of dark cells and a set of light cells; identifying a two-dimensional micro-shape, wherein the micro-shape has a size that is no larger than a size of each cell of the two-dimensional barcode; generating a secondary pattern comprising a plurality of the micro-shapes; and superimposing the secondary pattern with the primary pattern for the two-dimensional barcode to yield a secure barcode. The resulting two-dimensional barcode includes a primary pattern comprising a set of dark cells and a set of light cells, where the sets represent encoded data, along with a secondary pattern of micro-shapes that are superimposed with the primary pattern.

  • Publication number: 20150331965
Abstract: A package design system creates a package design file. The file includes comprises a two-dimensional representation of a three-dimensional structure having a plurality of facets having alternative design scenarios that can be selected based on conditions of the cutting and/or folding device that is used to create the package. An example of such a condition is a thickness of a substrate that is being processed by the device. The system creates the file by creating a set of cut and/or fold line definitions. At least one of the cut and/or fold line definitions will be a variable cut/fold line definition. For each identified variable cut/fold line definition, the system identifies one or more alternate parameters for the variable cut/fold line definition, a first cutting/folding scenario that will not use the alternate parameters, and a second cutting/folding scenario that will use the alternate parameters.

  • Publication number: 20150317411
Abstract: A method and system for creating a customized package design. Package design and preference information related to a shape of the package design is received. The preference information includes user-specified information related to one or more levels of one or more structural attributes of the package design. A detailed design is generated that incorporates the user-specified information and a detailed design file is generated and output. Generation of the detailed design includes identifying functional elements associated with the package that correspond to the user-specified information and altering at least one physical characteristic of the identified functional elements based upon the preference information, and incorporating the altered physical characteristic into the detailed design. A determination can be made as to whether the altered detailed design satisfies any constraints associated with the package being design, and the detailed design file can be updated accordingly.

  • Patent number: 9137405
Abstract: To print a certified document, a user may select or a system may receive a selection of a document to be certified. The system identifies a security template to be used based on the document and/or capabilities of the print device on which the document will be printed. The system may display the document with a non-secure overlay of the selected security template, add a unique security element to the document according to the template, and cause the document to be printed at the selected print device with the added security element without permitting the added security element to be fully displayed or printed on any other device.

  • Patent number: 9137232
Abstract: A document presentation system routes a document having sensitive data to various users, wherein the various users have different levels of permission to access the sensitive data. When any user displays the document on a display of an electronic device, the display will show document so that sensitive data is replaced with an augmented reality (AR) marker. The AR marker may include a descriptor of the class of data to which the sensitive data belongs. The system will also display an AR overlay for each AR marker. For each user, the AR overlay for each AR marker will include none, some, or all of the sensitive data corresponding to the AR marker. The amount of the sensitive data that will be displayed will depend on the user's authorization level.

  • Publication number: 20150244897
Abstract: A document contains a security element that combines a correlation mark and microgloss mark so that foreground pixels of the correlation mark are printed in a toner of a first color, and pixels of the correlation mark overwrite portions of the correlation mark in a second color, but neither the first color nor the second color appear on areas that correspond to background pixels of the correlation mark.

  • Publication number: 20150213155
Abstract: A package generation system creates a package definition file for creation of a package flat. The file includes dimensions for cut lines along which the package will be separated from a two dimensional substrate. The flat includes facets and functional elements that connect the facets. The system will identify a pair of the functional elements that have a connecting relationship. The first facet of the pair is a tab structure having a symmetric design, and the second facet of the pair is a receiving structure. If the tab structure and receiving structure are connected to cut lines that intersect at a pivot point, the system will convert the definition of the tab structure from the symmetric design to a non-symmetric design. It will save dimensions for the edges and functional elements in the package design file with the non-symmetric design.

  • Publication number: 20150205777
Abstract: A method of creating an electronic file corresponding to a printed artifact may include receiving an image file of a document page. The method may include analyzing the image file to detect a potential form identifier on the document page and automatically (without human intervention) performing a search to identify an actual form that corresponds to the potential form identifier. The method may further include validating that the image file is of a document page that corresponds to the actual form, locating a probable fill-in field on the document page and mapping the probable fill-in field to an actual fill-in field of the actual form.

  • Patent number: 8928948
Abstract: Described herein is a method to encode infrared (IR) security watermarks using a named color dictionary within a PDL in a device independent manner. A set of colors is chosen that lies within the common gamut of printing devices and then defined in a device-independent color space. For each color and output device, a metameric pair of device colorant values corresponding to minimum and maximum black (K) is obtained using inversion techniques. These extremes are selected in order to obtain the maximum perceivable IR signal. The metameric pair sets are processed to extract a smaller subset that satisfies certain criteria, including bounds on the K difference, total ink area coverage, and deviation from the neutral axis. The final data is then stored in resource files that link fixed device-independent IR color names to pairs of variable device-dependent colorant values.
