  • Patent number: 9653280
Abstract: The invention describes an electrode (1) for use in a lamp (3) comprising a quartz glass envelope (30) enclosing a chamber (31), which electrode (1) comprises a tip for extending into the chamber (31) and base for embedding in a sealed portion (33) of the quartz glass envelope (30), characterized in that the base comprises a plurality of essentially smooth concave channels (2) arranged around the body of the electrode (2) and wherein the depth (dch) of a channel (2) is preferably at most 8 percent, more preferably at most 5 percent, most preferably at most 3 percent of a diameter (De) of the electrode (2).
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20120223639
Abstract: This invention describes a method for manufacturing a conductive connection of a metallic electrode wire (1) and a metallic lead-in wire (3) for a gas discharge lamp (11), preferably a ceramic discharge metal halide lamp. The method includes a bending step, whereby an end portion (4) of the lead-in wire (3) is bended and folded over such that a first section (15) of the end portion (4) at the tip of the lead-in wire (3) overlaps a second section (16) of the end portion (4). Furthermore, the method includes the placement of the electrode wire (1) in-between the first section (15) and the second section (16) of the folded-over end portion (4) of the lead-in wire (3).

  • Patent number: 6525474
Abstract: The electric lamp comprises a lamp vessel (1) and an electric element (4). The electric element (4) is electrically connected to the outside via a current feedthrough that comprises an outer current conductor (7). By a plastic deformation (12) of the outer current conductor (7), e.g. flattening, it is interlocked in the wall (2) of the lamp vessel (1) and the durability of the current feedthrough of the lamp against a mechanical load is improved.

  • Patent number: 5527199
Abstract: The electric lamp has a quartz glass lamp vessel (1) in the wall (2) of which metal foils (4) are embedded to which internal current conductors (5) and to a flat end portion (8) of which external current conductors (6) are connected. The end portions (8) are eccentrically flattened by means of stamps (20, 21) so as to have a plane (7) to which the center line (9) of the external current conductor (6) is substantially coincident. The occurrence of cracks and facture of the metal foils (4) is thereby counteracted.

  • Patent number: 5320562
Abstract: A cap electric lamp of the type used in optical systems, for example, or as a vehicle headlamp, includes a glass lamp vessel with a first and a second neck-shaped portion in mutually opposing arrangement with seals through which current supply conductors extend to an electric element arranged in the lamp vessel. A metal sleeve is provided having a longitudinal slot around the first neck-shaped portion holding the lamp vessel with a clamping fit. This sleeve has a welding zone and a first and second clamping zone, each of which has a loop in the shape of an open hair pin. The clamping zones have respective, mutually opposing welding lugs which are interconnected by a welded joint so as to close the sleeve. A metal fixing member is provided with tongues which are welded to the sleeve in a welding zone of the sleeve. A lamp cap of insulating material is connected to the lamp vessel in which the fixing member is fixed and which has contact members to which the current supply conductors are connected.
