  • Patent number: 8405262
Abstract: The stator of a fluid cooled electric machine, such as a motor, a generator, or a motor/generator assembly, includes an annular stator core including inwardly projecting teeth and external grooves in an outer surface of the core that are radially aligned with the teeth. Electrically conductive windings are mounted on the inwardly projecting teeth, and a pipe assembly for coolant has a pipe formed into a serpentine shape. The pipe includes axially extending pipe portions received in the external stator core grooves, and end turns interconnecting adjacent pairs of the axially extending pipe portions. Heat conduction elements are secured to the end turns of the coolant pipe, and a housing surrounding the outer surface of the stator core retains the axially extending pipe portions within the external grooves.

  • Patent number: 8373316
Abstract: A coolant flow enhancing device is provided to increase electric machine coil cooling at coil end turn locations. Such a device is incorporated into an overall fluid cooled electric machine that has phase separators extending through slots between stator teeth. The device includes flow deflectors located at ends of the phase separators. Each of the flow deflectors is designed so that a contour of its interior surface follows an outer contour of a corresponding one of the end turns to both maximize a cooling fluid flow rate past the one of the end turns and minimize separation of the fluid from the one of the end turns.

  • Publication number: 20070068291
Abstract: The apparatus described provides a redundant actuator system that is tolerant of any single point failure. In the event of a single point failure in the actuator system, the other motor and corresponding ball nut can be commanded to rotate, thus providing the same function as the system had before the failure.

  • Publication number: 20060237637
Abstract: A motor system having a motor and an encoder is built using a metal bellows coupling for anti-rotation of encoder housing with high torsional stiffness and capacity to survive large radial and axial misalignment (both static and dynamic) in a very compact space.

  • Patent number: 6577036
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for the construction of a frameless cartridge motor. In accordance with one embodiment of the present invention a frameless cartridge motor is provided such that the motor's rotor is aligned with the motor's stator, a feedback device is calibrated and attached to the motor via a flexible member, and fasteners fix the rotor to motor's housing.
