  • Patent number: 6742323
Abstract: A strapping apparatus for securing a tape around a package has a housing, a support roll rotatable on the housing, a tube shaft pivotal on the housing adjacent the support roll about a tube-shaft axis, and a drive shaft rotatable in the tube shaft about a drive-shaft axis parallel to and offset from the tube-shaft axis. A first drive roll on the drive shaft carries a friction layer bearing axially offset from the drive-shaft axis on the housing. A first drive connected to the drive shaft rotates same and the first drive roll in a clamping direction and thereby oppositely rotates the tube shaft about the tube-shaft axis into an end position and also can rotate the drive shaft and the first drive roll in an opposite freeing direction to thereby oppositely rotate the tube shaft about the tube-shaft axis into another end position.

  • Patent number: 5467701
Abstract: A package strapper with three motor-driven mechanisms, specifically a strap feed, a strap stretcher, and a strap-end fastener. The mechanisms are mounted on a strap track that loops around the package. The strap feed includes at least two wheels, each forced against one side of the strap by a spring. The motor that drives the strap feed can be reversed. The strap-stretcher wheel is between the feed and the track and is partly loosely surrounded by a strap guide. One end of the guide opens into the track. The strap-feed motor and the strap-stretcher motor are asynchronous three-phase motors. They are connected to a frequency converter that supplies them with electricity of varying frequency and potential and controlled by controls or by a processor integrated into the frequency converter. A manually adjustable terminal strap-tension selector is connected to the controls or to the processor.

  • Patent number: 4605178
Abstract: The packaging band in packaging machines, especially when it is formed from plastic, was previously temporarily stored in meandering loops. According to the invention, the band is stored in coils in a spiral relationship to each other, whereby the center of the spiral is shifted and the coils have a free intermediary space between each other. The packaging band can be easily fed at a tangent to the start of the smallest coil without sharp bends and removed at the largest coil by means of shifting the center. The spiral can also be in a standing position. It is advantageous in this instance if the packaging band is fed in and removed in the vicinity of the lowest point. The innermost coil is not limited in its size by any fixed stop means, but rather the infeed of packaging band is cut in by a sensing switch when the radius of the inner coil has reached a certain minimum size.

  • Patent number: 4527379
Abstract: Apparatus for tensioning a plastic strapping band positioned around a package and for connecting the overlapping ends of the band by hot bonding consisting of a fastening mechanism for hot bonding the overlapping ends of the band and including a backing plate, between the band and the package, against which three plungers aligned along the longitudinal axis of the band can be applied, the first plunger securing the free front end of the band, the second plunger securing the rear end of the band, and the third, middle, plunger forcing the overlapping ends of the band against a hot-bonding mechanism in the form of a heated cutter and compressing the molten ends together. The three plungers (27, 28, 29) aligned along the longitudinal axis of the band (20) are activated with a single cammed disk (31) on a shaft (67) perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the band.

  • Patent number: 4516488
Abstract: Support and tensioning apparatus for a strapping band to be tensioned around a package. A band first pressed between a pair of wheels and advanced in a band guide that surrounds but does not contact the package. The band is subsequently retracted with its front end secured in place into a position against the package by reversing the sense in which the pair of wheels rotates, and is then tensioned with a separate tensioning wheel that rotates slowly and at high power. The strapping band is tensioned with a pair of wheels of which one wheel is an idler wheel and the other wheel is a tensioning wheel powered in the tensioning direction by a motor and with its shaft mounted in a pivoting lever in such a way that the wheel presses against the strapping band, which is to some extent looped around it, while the band is being tensioned and rests on the idler wheel, with a force that increases with the tension in the band.

  • Patent number: 4013175
Abstract: A device for controlling the return of the coupling head for central couplings to their central position, especially for use in connection with rail vehicles, in which the coupling head is by means of a coupling rod linked to a housing arranged on a vehicle. A cam operatively connected to the coupling rod extends between two abutments which in the horizontal path of the cam are displaceable hydraulically, electrically or pneumatically. In one end position of the abutments, the full horizontal lateral deviation of the coupling rod is available, whereas in the other end position, the cam is clamped in between the two abutments.
