  • Patent number: 6280233
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a housing formed of electrical insulating material containing a chamber in which is mounted a resilient clamping member that biases a conductor into electrical engagement with an electrical contact also contained within the chamber. The bare end of the conductor is inserted into the chamber via a first housing opening, and the clamping member is operated to a released condition relative to the conductor by a release tool that is inserted into the chamber via a second housing opening. The clamping member includes a clamping leg having a laterally offset terminal portion that carries a clamping edge adapted to dig into the conductor and thereby retain the same within the chamber. The clamping member also includes a support leg that is operable by the release tool to displace the clamping leg to disengage the clamping edge from the conductor, thereby to release the same for withdrawal from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 6261120
Abstract: A resilient electrical contact of generally V-shaped configuration includes a support leg mounted generally parallel with and spaced from a bus bar, and a clamping leg for biasing an electrical conductor toward lateral electrical engagement with the bus bar, characterized in that the contact clamping leg includes a stepped portion that terminates in an offset terminal portion that biases the conductor in lateral engagement with the bus bar, which terminal portion carries a clamping edge that resists withdrawal of the conductor from the contact. In order to disconnect the conductor from the contact, the device is provided for displacing the clamping leg from the bus bar, thereby to permit withdrawal of the conductor from the contact.

  • Patent number: 5938484
Abstract: A resilient electrical terminal includes a loop-shaped conductive resilient compression spring having a body portion, a clamping leg portion extending generally normal to said body portion, and a contact leg portion extending generally normal to said clamping leg portion, said clamping leg portion containing a window opening, and an electrically conductive bus bar arranged parallel with and adjacent said contact leg portion on the side thereof remote from said spring body portion, said bus bar extending at one end through said window opening, the free extremity of said spring clamping leg portion being bent adjacent the window through an acute angle relative to the axis of the clamping leg portion to cause the wall portion of the window opening remote from the spring body portion, thereby to define a first sharp edge, whereby when a conductor is inserted in the window opening between the bus bar and the window wall portion, the sharp edge digs into the adjacent peripheral portion of the conductor to inhibit r

  • Patent number: 5915990
Abstract: A connector for connecting at least one first conductor 5 with another conductor 50, including a connector body 2 having a first end containing a chamber 2a, and a second end containing a through bore 2b communicating with the chamber, a slide member 4 slidably mounted in the connector body chamber, the slide member containing a transverse bore 25 for receiving the first conductor, the slide member including at its end within the chamber a longitudinally projecting pin portion 18, and an electrical terminal 3 slidably mounted on the slide member pin portion, the slide member being slidably displaceable relative to the electrical contact from a first position in which a contact portion 9 of the terminal is remote from the transverse bore to permit the insertion of the first conductor therein, to a second position in which the contact portion extends across the transverse bore in electrical engagement with the first conductor, the free extremity of the contact being received by a corresponding opposed recess fo
