  • Patent number: 5242101
Abstract: Catalytic converter carrier bodies have a jacket and adjacent layers of corrugated or smooth and corrugated metal foils wound or layered in the jacket. The metal foils contact each other and contact the jacket at connecting points, defining flow channels between the metal foils and between the metal foils and the jacket and defining brazing gaps at the connecting points. A method for brazing the carrier bodies includes initially dispersing powdered brazing material with a suitable particle size in a mixture of binder material and liquid. The flow channels are flooded with the liquid mixture for depositing the brazing material in at least some of the brazing gaps. Excess mixture is subsequently removed from the flow channels and the carrier body is then brazed.

  • Patent number: 4847966
Abstract: A matrix for a catalytic reactor for the purification of exhaust gas as well as a process and an arrangement for producing this matrix which has a corrugated metal strip, wound or folded, or a smooth strip and a corrugated metal strip that are wound or folded into several adjacent layers. The wound or folded layers are soldered together with one another. Radially extending indentations of small dimensions are provided at the points of the corrugated strip that border on the adjacent layers. In these indentations soldering material is received.

  • Patent number: 4724903
Abstract: Heat exchanger having a tube plate made of plastic, in which metallic tubes are fixed. The tube plate has elevations having openings for accommodating the tube ends, with the openings being subdivided into three sections in axial extension. The center section has the smallest cross-section and the end sections are in each case widened. The elevations extend on both sides of the tube plate, the total height of the elevations located in the area of an opening, inclusive of the tube plate thickness, being about 1.8 to 2.5 times the single tube plate thickness.

  • Patent number: 4576223
Abstract: The invention concerns a heat exchanger comprising a heat exchanger block having a plurality of tubes and fins arranged transversely to the tubes, at least one tube plate and a water tank, both made of a synthetic plastic material. The tube plate has orifices to receive the ends of the tubes and the water tank is fastened in a water tight manner to the tube plate. In order to obtain a simple and reliable joint of the heat exchanger tubes with the tube plate and the water tank with the tube plate, the plastic tube plate is provided on one side with projections. The orifices are located in these projections and the ends of the tubes are mounted in these orifices by expansion in the radial direction or impression in the axial direction. Both the tube plate and the water tank are equipped with flat surfaces at their edges. These surfaces rest on each other and the tube plate is joined with the water tank by vibration welding on these surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4484621
Abstract: Disclosed is a heat exchanger, preferably for use in automotive vehicles, comprising a plurality of parallel tubes and a plurality of ribs extending the tubes, together with lateral parts fastened to the ends of the ribs. According to the invention, the lateral part consists of a strip applied against the ends of the ribs and joined with the ribs by means of an adhesive or by the embedding of the rib ends into the material of the strip. Also disclosed is a process for the manufacture of heat exchangers of this type.
