Patent number: 8896433Abstract: In a method and apparatus for assisting the driver of a vehicle in maintaining a traffic lane limited by traffic lane markings, the traffic lane markings and the position of the vehicle in the traffic lane are detected. Upon an actual or impending change of traffic lanes a lane change warning is output to the driver of the vehicle in a first step, and a course correcting actuating intervention counteracting the lane change is carried out in a second step. The actuating intervention is carried out only if the change of traffic lanes is impermissible due to the type of traffic lane marking to be crossed during the traffic lane change, or if the lane change is not possible without danger due to collision-endangering objects present on the side of the traffic lane.Type: GrantFiled: November 26, 2008Date of Patent: November 25, 2014Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Bernd Danner, Uli Kolbe, Rainer Moebus, Markus Raab, Uwe Regensburger, Reinhold Schoeb, Anke Dorle Dudeck, Lars Dudeck, Sven Gerhard Dudeck

Patent number: 7586402Abstract: The opening of vehicle doors often leads to collisions with stationary obstacles that are not visible to the occupants or with moving obstacles that approach the vehicle without being noticed. Thus to avoid collisions when vehicle doors are opened, the aim of the invention is to take any modifications to the environmental situation of the vehicle as a result of a movement of the vehicle and the detected objects into consideration. This allows a collision of the vehicle doors with the objects to be reliably avoided. To achieve this, in a first step the probable trajectory of a vehicle is determined. In an additional step, the objects in the vicinity of the vehicle are detected and probable trajectories of said detected objects are determined. Respective probability ranges are then defined both for the vehicle and the pivoting zone of the vehicle doors and for the detected objects.Type: GrantFiled: March 21, 2005Date of Patent: September 8, 2009Assignee: Daimler AGInventors: Edgar Bihler, Ingo Dudeck, Uwe Franke, Axel Gern, Reinhard Janssen, Carsten Knoeppel, Frank-Werner Mohn, Rainer Moebus, Volker Oltmann, Uwe Regensburger, Helmut Schittenhelm, Reinhold Schoeb, Avshalom Suissa, Bernd Woltermann, Zoltan Zomotor

Publication number: 20070256885Abstract: A steering system (1) of a vehicle, having a steering wheel (2) which is connected mechanically to the steerable vehicle wheels (11) via a steering column (3). A superimposition actuator (26) which can be actuated independently of the driver by a control device (25) is provided for generating a superimposition variable (U). A superimposition device (6) superimposes a steering wheel variable (?H) which describes the steering actuation of the steering wheel (2) and the superimposition variable (U) to form an output variable. A steering actuator (19) sets a steering angle (?L) at the steerable vehicle wheels (20) as a function of the output variable. An actuating device (27) is provided which is actuated by the control device (25) in order to generate an actuating device torque (MS) which acts on the steering column.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 14, 2005Publication date: November 8, 2007Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Dieter Ammon, Ingo Dudeck, Axel Gern, Rainer Moebus, Volker Oltmann, Reinhold Schoeb, Bernd Woltermann, Zoltan Zomotor

Patent number: 6926374Abstract: An automatic brake and steering system and method for a vehicle contains a sensor unit for sensing vehicle state and characteristic variables, and ambient conditions. Furthermore, a control unit and actuator devices are provided for setting the vehicle brake system and/or the vehicle steering system. In order to be able to carry out automatic avoidance maneuvers with maximum safety, an avoidance route is determined if there is an obstacle in the path of the vehicle. Thereby, if there is a further obstacle on the avoidance route, the strategy for determining the avoidance route is applied once more. If it is not possible to find a collision-free avoidance route, that route on which the difference between the remaining braking distance and the remaining distance from the obstacle is smallest is selected.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 2001Date of Patent: August 9, 2005Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Ingo Dudeck, Rainer Freitag, Gerhard Kurz, Wofgang Lauer, Thomas Roehrig-Gericke, Reinhold Schoeb, Harry Troester, Andy Yap, Richard Zimmer

Patent number: 6502908Abstract: A control system for a vehicle has a detection device for generating signals which describe the operating and vehicle state. The latter signals are supplied to a regulating and control unit which generates actuating signals for switching on and off a vehicle component that influences a brake servo device for automatically producing braking force if the accelerator pedal is not actuated by the driver. This “acceleration—automatic braking” mode is triggered if the brake pedal has been actuated in a prescribed manner within a defined period of time.Type: GrantFiled: May 1, 2000Date of Patent: January 7, 2003Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Armin Mueller, Thomas Roehrig-Gericke, Reinhold Schoeb, Harry Troester

Patent number: 6449572Abstract: In a method for classifying the driving style of a driver in a motor vehicle, measured variables indicative of driving style are recorded and driving-style classification figures are determined by a comparison with reference values, parameter settings corresponding to the driving-style classification figures being carried out to adapt the functioning of a regulation and control unit. In order to improve the handling of a motor vehicle with the aid of a driver classification, it is provided that presettings for the driving-style classification figures are stored in the regulation and control unit of the motor vehicle, it being possible to prescribe driving-style classification figures for a plurality of different driver reaction stages, and that the current driver is classified in a prescribed driver reaction stage in the motor vehicle by measuring classifying indicators, and driving-style classification figures corresponding to the driver reaction stage are activated in the regulation and control unit.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1999Date of Patent: September 10, 2002Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Gerhard Kurz, Armin Müller, Thomas Röhrig-Gericke, Reinhold Schöb, Harry Tröster, Andy Yap

Patent number: 5653517Abstract: For the determination of the friction/slip characteristics of the tires of a road vehicle which is equipped with an antilock system designed for an individual wheel control, in an initial phase of a controlled braking, only the wheel brake of an individual vehicle wheel is acted upon by brake pressure and the latter is dimensioned so that the result is the initial retardation in accordance with the driver's wish. During this initial test phase of the braking, the absolute brake slip .lambda..sub.B as well as the friction utilization .mu..sub.B linked therewith is continuously determined as soon as, as a result of just the braking of the test wheel, the vehicle retardation z increases no further and/or the braked vehicle wheel is more strongly retarded than corresponds to a predetermined threshold value, the test braking is interrupted and the braking is continued by pressure action on the further vehicle wheels; corresponding test braking phases are carried out in cyclic sequence for all guidance wheels.Type: GrantFiled: March 4, 1996Date of Patent: August 5, 1997Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Manfred Burckhardt, Gerd Eilert, Rainer Freitag, Armin Mueller, Reinhold Schoeb, Rainer Spiecker, Sinan Kazan, Richard Zimmer

Patent number: 5599076Abstract: A slip control system determines friction/slip characteristics of tires of a road vehicle equipped both with an antilock system to permit an individual brake pressure control on individual vehicle wheels. The front wheel brakes are connected to a primary output pressure space of the tandem master cylinder, and the rear wheel brakes are connected to a secondary output pressure space of the tandem master cylinder. A first bore stage of a housing of the tandem master cylinder forms a housing-defined boundary of the secondary output pressure space. An inner piston flange movably seals off a pressureless downstream chamber in relation to an inner portion of the first bore stage. An intermediate wall of the housing delimits the bore stage relative to a central bore stage which extends from a third bore stage receiving a primary piston.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1994Date of Patent: February 4, 1997Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventors: Manfred Burckhardt, Gerd Eilert, Rainer Freitag, Armin Mueller, Reinhold Schoeb, Rainer Spiecker, Sinan Kazan, Richard Zimmer
