  • Patent number: 4281523
Abstract: In a flat knitting machine having an electrically controlled selecting dee for the needles, the selecting jacks (11) controlling the needles are movably mounted in the needle grooves of the needle bed in the same direction as the needles and include staggered feet which form foot rows in the longitudinal direction of the needle bed. For each of the foot rows a control element is provided on the carriage, which can be moved into and out of operative position between adjacent feet of a foot row. For the purpose of increasing the performance of the flat knitting machine and to achieve a simple and easy carriage structure, all control elements (2) are preferably formed as light double-armed levers and are pivotably mounted on an axle attached to the carriage and extending transversely to the longitudinal direction of the needle bed.

  • Patent number: 4240274
Abstract: The end run reversals of the reciprocating sled of a flat bed knitting mane are smoothly implemented by a roller 12 mounted on a hub 5 fixed to a link 4 of a drive chain 1 at one end. The other end of the hub is fixed to a member 6 slidable in a groove 7 of a lateral rail 8 mounted to the cross slide 9 of the sled. The roller runs on a semi-circular guide surface 13 of a support segment 14 mounted to the machine frame at each end adjacent a chain sprocket wheel 2. The support segments absorb the inertial forces of the sled and cross slide to thereby prevent the tilting of the chain links at the sprocket wheels and the attendant varying of the sled stroke.

  • Patent number: 4180992
Abstract: Needles in knitting machines are selected for pattern purposes by a lever system operated by a pattern drum mounted on a carriage passable to and fro over the needle bed. The lever system incorporates locking-sinkers provided with contact feet in staggered relationship so that different force requirements apply to different ones of the rocking sinkers. The present invention provides an additional foot on the end of each rocking sinker and a cam element on the carriage to engage the said additional feet of the rocking sinkers selected by the pattern drum fully to depress the selected rocking sinkers whereby to ensure actuation of the selected needles.

  • Patent number: 4141228
Abstract: A flat bed knitting machine with either a reciprocal or a rotatable carriage has a pattern mechanism in which needles are carried on a needle bed, each needle being operatively associated with a pattern sinker and a selection sinker having first and second parts, which parts can be connected together in a variety of relative positions. The rear portion of the first selector sinker part overlies the front portion of the second, and the connection is effected over these portions, the front portion of the first part being shaped so as to be depressible by the pattern sinker to permit the connection to be changed. The second selector sinker part has a butt or cam element operably engageable by cam means carried by the carriage and the first selector part has one or two such butts.

  • Patent number: 4100767
Abstract: A pattern mechanism for a flat knitting machine, has pattern sinkers lowered into and raised from the needle bed by pattern levers, or pattern sinkers movable in the direction of needle movement, the pattern levers, or the pattern sinkers movable in the needle direction having feet in staggered formation. At each passage of a selection point on a cam means, the pattern levers are lowered to the needle bed and held in, half in, or fully out in accordance with the particular pattern by strip-like control members, or the pattern sinkers movable in the needle direction are controlled by lifting members. The control members are on levers in the cam means movable by respective eccentrics, or cams, or by the pattern lever feet between two of the feet located successively in the direction of movement of the cam means and are retained in selected positions by electromagnetically controlled levers.

  • Patent number: 4004437
Abstract: A flat knitting machine comprises a needle bed and a carriage traversible along the needle bed. Stitch cams presettable in a plurality of different positions according to a desired knitting pattern are provided, and an adjustably positioned ramp in the needle bed fixed to a slide is adapted to displace a cooperating stitch cam into a selected position. Means are provided on the carriage for clamping the stitch cam in the position to which it has been displaced by the ramp and a slide to which the ramp is attached is raisable by control cam means preceding knitting cams in the carriage.
