  • Publication number: 20060051812
Abstract: The present invention is directed to novel methods to produce carbohydrate polymers and oligomers especially for pharmaceutical and food industries. The invention is directed to methods to remodel monosaccharides, and/or oligosaccharides and/or polysaccharides by a different monosaccharide, oligosaccharide or polysaccharide and optionally by further alcohol substances, under condensing conditions, preferably in acid catalysed reactions.

  • Publication number: 20050080299
Abstract: A method for the preparation of matairesinol from hydroxymatairesinol, either by (i) catalytic hydrogenolysis of the hydroxy group in 7-position of hydroxymatairesinol, where the reaction is carried out in a suitable solvent as a pressurized hydrogenolysis, or (ii) reduction of hydroxymatairesinol, where the reduction is carried out as a hydrogen transfer reaction from a hydrogen donor in the presence of a catalyst.

  • Patent number: 6582509
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for preparing an organic pigment from starch, and the pigment thus received. According to the invention, starch granules are swollen to increase their volume and plasticity, their stability towards changes in volume and shape is improved by cross-linking, by derivatization, or by making the surface hydrophobic, after which gas bubbles or cavities are formed inside the granules, these bubbles or cavities having a strong light scattering effect. Generating bubbles or cavities can be performed by evaporating water or another liquid, by releasing impregnated gas, by a gas generating reaction, or by displacing absorbed water with a solvent. The product is useful as a white pigment especially in coating of starch, in paints and in cosmetic products.
    Type: Grant
