Abstract: A method for use in an interactive system includes receiving position information for a controller that is being manipulated by a user, analyzing the received position information to determine whether a predetermined movement of the controller has been performed, and changing the user's viewpoint of a scene displayed on a display in response to the predetermined movement of the controller being performed. Another embodiment provides a method for use in an interactive system that includes moving at least a portion of a character in a scene displayed on a display in response to the predetermined movement of the controller being performed.

Abstract: A method for use in an interactive system includes providing a controller that includes a middle portion, a first handle portion on one side of the middle portion, and a second handle portion on an opposite side of the middle portion. Three-dimensional motions of the controller are tracked as it is manipulated by a user who holds the controller by grasping the first handle portion with one hand and positioning the controller so that the middle portion and the second handle portion are extended away from the user. One or more images displayed on a display screen are caused to be responsive to the tracked three-dimensional motions of the controller.
