  • Publication number: 20210108593
Abstract: A piston for an internal combustion engine may include a piston axis and a radial plane extending orthogonally thereto. The piston may further include a piston head having an outer circumferential face including at least one ring groove configured to receive a piston ring. The at least one ring groove may be arranged sloped to an outside in a radial direction. The at least one ring groove may be oriented at an angle ? between 0.5°???2° obliquely with respect to the radial plane. The piston may also include at least one piston ring having a rectangular-like cross section with a plurality of rounded corner regions and an oblique outer flank. The oblique outer flank may differ from an inner flank of the at least one piston ring disposed opposite the oblique outer flank by an angle ? between 2°<??5°.

  • Patent number: 9163725
Abstract: There is described an oil control ring idealized for internal combustion engines and formed by a ferrous body less than 2.0 millimeters high, which comprises two external contact surfaces where each surface contains a first and a second end ridges, two slanted faces where each slanted face contains a third end, a peripheral cross section facing the cylinder wall and an internal circular section facing the side of the piston, where each contact surface has a height (h) between the first and the second end ridges of up to 0.15 millimeters and the angle of the slanted face is comprised between 8 and 12 degrees and also by the peripheral cross section is solid, without the presence of cracks, holes and/or other kinds of oil drainage areas. The ring permits an improved distribution of the contact pressure of the combination and, therefore, a better conformability of the ring with the cylinder wall.

  • Publication number: 20130167801
Abstract: An oil control ring for internal combustion engines, formed by a ferrous body having two external contact surfaces where each surface contains first and second extremity edges, two tilted faces where each tilted face starts from the respective second edge, a peripheral transversal section directed at the cylinder wall and an internal circular section directed at the side of the piston, where the projections of contact are directed, so that the respective tilted faces are turned facing the other, symmetrically, in a preferred concretization. The ring allows the maintenance of appropriate levels of contact pressure, even under reduced expanding loadings due to the use of profile that brings reduced contact of the ring with the cylinder interface. Additionally, it brings better dynamic stability and consequent distribution of the contact pressure of the set. It also makes it possible to apply superficial hardening treatments on oil rings with reduced contact surface.

  • Publication number: 20120112418
Abstract: There is described an oil control ring (1) idealized for internal combustion engines and formed by a ferrous body less than 2.0 millimeters high, which comprises two external contact surfaces (102) where each surface (102) contains a first (22) and a second (23) end ridges, two slanted faces (3) where each slanted face (3) contains a third end (32), a peripheral cross section (4) facing the cylinder wall (5) and an internal circular section (6) facing the side of the piston (7), where each contact surface (102) has a height (h) between the first (22) and the second (23) end ridges of up to 0.15 millimeters and the angle of the slanted face (3) is comprised between 8 and 12 degrees and also by the peripheral cross section (4) is solid, without the presence of cracks, holes and/or other kinds of oil drainage areas. The ring (1) permits an improved distribution of the contact pressure of the combination and, therefore, a better conformability of the ring with the cylinder wall.
