  • Patent number: 10339166
Abstract: Methods and devices for generating unique and different responses to commands are described herein. Natural language generation techniques may be employed to formulate responses to commands that are tailored to particular users. These responses account for previously provided responses, previously commands that have been made, and/or geographic locations of the requesting individual, for example. In some embodiments, an audible command may be received by a backend system from a voice activated electronic device. Text data may be generated from the audible command, and a user intent of the command is determined. Based on the user intent, a response from a particular application may be obtained. The response may be compared with previously generated responses and, if a similar responses was determined to have been provided previously, one or more different words, or a different arrangement of words, may be used to generate a new response.

  • Patent number: 9679554
Abstract: A system may determine text for inclusion in a voice corpus for use in text-to-speech (TTS) processing using an interface that allows multiple entities to connect and review potential text segments concurrently. The interface may allow networked communication with the system. Individual text segments may be approved or rejected by reviewing entities, such as proofreaders. The system may prioritize text segments to send to reviewers and may re-prioritize text segments based on a linguistic coverage of previously accepted text segments.

  • Patent number: 9508338
Abstract: A text-to-speech (TTS) system may be configured to incorporate breath sounds in the output speech. By incorporating breath sounds into speech output from text a TTS system may be able to mimic more naturally sounding human speech, particularly for long-form narration of text longer than short phrases. The breath sounds may be stored as units for unit selection or may be generated during parametric synthesis. The acoustic features of the breath sounds and duration between breaths may depend upon the punctuation of text, the linguistic distance between breaths, the breaks between intonational phrases, the linguistic context of the breaths, and other factors.

  • Patent number: 9405741
Abstract: Features are disclosed for recognizing inappropriate content in an output. The offensive content may be generated as a result of a speech processing error. A system may identify the inappropriate elements of a generated output and select among different appropriate alternatives. The system may be adjusted based on certain user characteristics. The system may be localized based on language and cultural features. The system may modify the generated output based on characteristics such as the tolerance threshold of known persons in the proximity of the system. The tolerance threshold may further be used to personalize and modify available content. Models used by the system may be further trained using input from a user.
