  • Publication number: 20180295646
Abstract: A method for allocating resources for device-to-device transmission between two or more user equipment (UEs) includes transmitting, from a first UE to a second UE, a resource allocation configuration for device-to-device communications. A resource request for a device-to-device transmission is received from the second UE. In response to the resource request, a resource for the device-to-device transmission is selected at the first UE. A resource grant is transmitted to the second UE. The resource grant identifies the selected resource. A device-to-device transmission is received from the second UE over the selected resource.

  • Patent number: 10070393
Abstract: A method for control of data transmission in a wireless communication system includes receiving, by an application, from a modem, information indicative of a radio coverage condition, where a user equipment (UE) includes the application and the modem; based on the received information, determining that the UE is in an enhanced coverage state; and in response to the determining, controlling uplink data transmission by the modem to reduce power consumption of the UE.

  • Patent number: 10064212
Abstract: A method for transmitting a scheduling request includes receiving, at a relay UE and from a remote UE, a sidelink control information. The relay UE is within a coverage area of a base station. The remote UE is outside of the coverage area. The relay UE is configured to relay transmissions from the remote UE to the base station, and the sidelink control information indicates a future transmission of a data packet over a sidelink channel. A scheduling request is transmitted to a base station. A scheduling grant that indicates an uplink resource is received from the base station. A data packet over the sidelink channel is received from the remote UE.

  • Publication number: 20180124674
Abstract: A device, serving cell and method of switching between modes of operation for the device in a cellular network comprises receiving a service via a connection with the serving cell. A condition indicative of deterioration in network service and an absence of a suitable neighbor cell are detected. In response, discovery of relay nodes is initiated. When a suitable relay node is discovered, a mechanism to switch to receiving the service via the suitable relay node is initiated. The service may be a mission critical push-to-talk over Long Term Evolution service. The relay node may be user equipment acting as a user equipment-to-network relay node. When the device is in an RCC_CONNECTED state, the mechanism to switch includes sending a relay mode preference indication to the serving cell, receiving a connection release message from the serving cell, releasing the serving cell connection, and establishing a sidelink connection with the relay.

  • Patent number: 9955321
Abstract: A network node communicates data of a first push-to-talk (PTT) group using a first multimedia broadcast/multicast service (MBMS) bearer, and data of a second PTT group using a second MBMS bearer. Responsive to a regrouping of the first PTT group and the second PTT group to form a regrouped PTT group, the network node communicates data of the regrouped PTT group using at least one of the first and second MBMS bearers.

  • Publication number: 20180063804
Abstract: A disclosed example method involves, when a device is operating in a stationary mode and before a need of the device to communicate data, determining whether a stored timing advance is valid. When the stored timing advance is not valid, a valid timing advance is determined before the need of the device to communicate the data.

  • Patent number: 9860735
Abstract: Techniques for use in the communication of supplemental non access stratum (NAS) information in a network are described. In one illustrative example, a mobile device operates to send to a network an initial NAS message associated with a NAS procedure. The mobile device further operates to send to the network a supplemental NAS message associated with the NAS procedure, where the supplemental NAS message includes supplemental NAS information. Several related and alternative techniques are provided.

  • Patent number: 9848421
Abstract: A mobile station in a communications system includes hardware and software stored on a tangible computer readable medium that, during operation, cause the mobile station to indicate one or more multislot classes for the mobile station to a device on a network. Parameters applicable to enhanced flexible timeslot assignment operation are determined based on the parameters of the one or more indicated multislot classes.

  • Publication number: 20170332311
Abstract: Method and systems for managing a communication link. One or more indicators of an expected service interruption associated with a communication link is determined. The communication link may be a link between a relay and a communication target and/or a link between the relay and a user equipment (UE). In response, the UE initiates one or more actions to reduce or avoid the expected service interruption.

  • Publication number: 20170289887
Abstract: In some implementations, a method in a user equipment (UE) for dynamically managing band capacity includes communicating with a first radio access network (RAN) on a first Radio Frequency (RF) channel and a second RAN on a second RF channel, where the first RAN and the second RAN are different networks. The UE receives an indication from the first RAN (or makes a determination) to handover to a third RF channel. The UE determines that the third RF channel conflicts with the second RF channel. The UE disables an RF band including the second RF channel with the second RAN and reports updated RF Band Capabilities to one or both RANs.

  • Publication number: 20170195923
Abstract: A system and method for implementing fallback on a wireless device for circuit switched fallback from a first network that does not provide a circuit switched domain service is presented. A paging message is received from the first network. The paging message instructs the wireless device to implement circuit switched fallback to a circuit switched network. The paging message is inspected for information indicative of a service associated with the paging message, and a channel type suitable for the service is determined from the information indicative of the service. A request message for initiating the establishment of a radio connection is transmitted. The request message identifies the suitable channel type, and the service is used on the circuit switched network.

  • Publication number: 20170111907
Abstract: Example communication stations and methods for transmitting on a random access channel (RACH) in wireless networks are disclosed herein. An example method for transmitting on an enhanced RACH by a device such that an initial access burst is received in a single time slot by a wireless network involves determining a timing advance, the timing advance being associated with a serving cell. The example method also involves transmitting, using the determined timing advance, the initial access burst, on the enhanced RACH, that includes at least one of an identifier or user data.

  • Patent number: 9628171
Abstract: A mobile station in a communications system includes hardware and software stored on a tangible computer readable medium that, during operation, cause the mobile station to receive a timeslot assignment from a wireless network and operate based on the received timeslot assignment. The timeslot assignment may be based on whether a timing advance offset is used by the wireless network. The mobile station may also receive an indication from the wireless network, indicating whether a timing advance offset is used by the wireless network. The mobile station may subsequently operate based on the received indication.
