  • Patent number: 8411392
Abstract: An apparatus for sensing magnetic domains in a patterned media that includes a first sensing element and a second sensing element in electrical communication with the first sensing element. The first sensing element has an output voltage lead and the second sensing element has an output voltage lead. The patterned media may be a bit patterned media or a track patterned media.
    Type: Grant

Date of Patent: April 2, 2013
    Assignee: Seagate Technology LLC
Inventors: Rene J. M. van de Veerdonk, Thomas F. Ambrose
  • Patent number: 7781078
Abstract: A method and system for magnetic recording using self-organized magnetic nanoparticles is disclosed. The method may include depositing surfactant coated nanoparticles on a substrate, wherein the surfactant coated nanoparticles represent first bits of recorded information. The surfactant coating is then removed from selected of the surfactant coated nanoparticles. The selected nanoparticles with their surfactant coating removed may then be designated to represent second bits of recorded information. The surfactant coated nanoparticles have a first saturation magnetic moment and the selected nanoparticles with the surfactant coating removed have a second saturation magnetic moment. Therefore, by selectively removing the surfactant coating from certain nanoparticles, a write operation for recording the first and second bits of information may be performed.

  • Publication number: 20090317655
Abstract: A method is disclosed that includes providing a substrate having a resist adheringly disposed thereon, providing a heat source adjacent to the resist, and activating the heat source while providing a topographically patterned template pressed against the resist. The heat source and the resist are disposed between the substrate and the template, such that the heat source provides a localized application of heat to the resist while the topographically patterned template is pressed against the resist.
