  • Patent number: 5092383
Abstract: The invention relates to a pleated shade for a triangular or other non-rectangular opening. The shade has a fixed bar which is shaped and angled to conform to at least a portion of a first edge of the opening and a moveable bar shaped, positioned and angled to conform to a second edge of the opening when the shade is in its closed position. Pleated material is connected at one end to the fixed bar and at the other end to the moveable bar and is adapted to cover the opening when the shade is in its open position. At least one row of openings is formed in the material which openings are aligned to conform to the preferred directions of movement of the shade, and cords passing through the row of openings are adapted to control stacking of the material. Normally, second cords are also provided to open and close the shade. Means are provided for connecting the first and second cords in a manner to compensate for differences in the rate of travel of the cords when the cords are operated.

  • Patent number: 4974656
Abstract: This invention relates to a pleated shade, and a method for the manufacture thereof. The shade has the two sections forming each rear projecting pleat secured together to form a rear projecting tab. Cord holes are formed in each of the tabs. The rigidity of the pleats may be substantially enhanced by providing double-weld joints for the tabs or by otherwise providing a multiple or continuous bond between the two fabric layers forming the tab. A joint used to form a tab may also be used as a splice joint to secure together two pieces of material either for repair of a defective or damaged material, to achieve a desired aesthetic effect or to customize the length or width of the shade. Pleat reversal problems may be overcome by carefully selecting the relative size of the tab and shade sections, by controlling the size and tab positions of cord holes, by treating the nose pleat to improve its memory, and by other suitable methods. A second piece of material may be positioned behind the first.

  • Patent number: 4880044
Abstract: A spacer device for controlling the spacing between selected portions of a horizontally or vertically mounted shade, drapery or other covering. The spacer is formed of a thin piece of material of predetermined length. For some embodiments, the material has projections extending at selectd intervals along the length of the piece of material, the projections being adapted to co-act with a cord used to control the opening and closing of the covering and preferfably with selected areas of the covering to control the spacing of the selected portions of the covering. The piece of material is preferably a cord and the projections are preferably loops extending from the cord. For other embodiments, the piece of material is stiff and extends between bars or rails fixed to the covering to control the spacing between the bars or rails when the covering is open. When the opening is closed, the stiff piece of material is guided, preferably by the cord holes, into a rail so that it does not extend from the covering.

  • Patent number: 4793396
Abstract: The invention relates to window coverings and in particular to a device for mounting fabric covering to a headrail. The device includes a cord guide holder having a body received in and supported by the headrail. The holder has a flexibly attached tongue which extends from the headrail. A clip attaches to the fabric by receiving the fabric over a torturous path. The tongue mounts to the clip so the flexible connection permits changing the orientation of the clip with respect to the holder body in a vertical, horizontal and twisting plane.

  • Patent number: 4248424
Abstract: An aerial projectile including a skeletal shell and a baffling material confined and/or supported by the skeletal shell. The skeletal shell is fabricated from a resilient, durable, light-weight and deformation resistant material such as nylon or other suitable plastic. The skeletal shell is formed with a predetermined shape generally defining a spatial configuration which may be spherical, ovoidal, ellipsoidal, hemispherical, or the like. The baffling material is in the form of a lightweight, resilient material such as plastic foam or the like. The baffling material forms at least a part of the external contour of the aerial projectile and may even be used to form protruding vanes or fins for the aerial projectile.

  • Patent number: 4131276
Abstract: A lightweight, non-injurious amusement ball designed for use in a restricted area or where it is desirable to prevent injury to the surroundings and participants from impact with the ball. The ball is fabricated from resilient, cellular plastic foam strips of rectangular cross section compressed in a central core and extending radially into an essentially spherical periphery. The periphery is impact absorbent and wind resistant for non-injurious activity and limited flight. A core is used to tie and compress the strips in the central core, providing increased density for stable trajectory.

  • Patent number: 4028767
Abstract: A brush composed of slim rectangular segments hinged together at their edges with bristles protruding from the hinged edges such that when the segments are folded together accordion style the bristles stick out for brushing. Simultaneously the segments act as a backing and grip. When the segments are unfolded, oriented edge to edge, the bristles interdigitate flush against the segments leaving the entire brush thin, flat, flexible, and easily stored or carried, e.g. as in a pants pocket or purse.Furthermore, a covering can be affixed so that it covers the bristles of the brush when it is in a flat or storage mode (configuration). This covering can be very thin and flexible or segmented and hinged in such a way as to enable it to function as a handle to the brush when the brush is in the folded or brushing mode (configuration).
