    Abstract: Methods and systems for protecting acid-reactive surfaces, particularly during subterranean treatment operations in which acids are used. In some embodiments, the methods include: providing a fluid additive including an organic compound and a base, wherein the organic compound includes a phosphonoalkyl moiety; providing an acid or acid generating source; mixing at least the fluid additive and the acid or acid generating source to form a treatment fluid; and introducing the treatment fluid into at least a portion of a subterranean formation.
