  • Patent number: 4529461
Abstract: A process and apparatus for the manufacture of pneumatic tires comprising a carcass formed of reinforcing plies and bead cores are disclosed. The tire carcass is built up around a first drum in cylindrical configuration and bead cores are applied to the carcass. The carcass is transferred telescopically to and around a second expandable drum. The carcass is then torically shaped and the ends of the plies turned-up around the bead cores.

  • Patent number: 4416317
Abstract: A pneumatic tire for a motor vehicle has a tread band having at least two longitudinal grooves which divide it into a plurality of circumferential ridges, and a series of circumferentially spaced axial grooves which divide the two outermost ridges into blocks. The edges of the inner ridges are provided with blind, oblique slits, all inclined in the same sense with respect to the circumferential direction of the tire. The slits are substantially parallel to one another and are preferably offset with respect to each other.

  • Patent number: 4407346
Abstract: A pneumatic tire for motor vehicles having a low power absorption and a high directional control stability is disclosed. The tire has a tread formed by two superimposed elastomeric layers and has a H/L ratio of less than 0.6; H is the sidewall height and L is the width of the tire section.

  • Patent number: 4360397
Abstract: A process for manufacturing radial type motor vehicle pneumatic tires is provided in which an annular reinforcing structure is disposed on a toric carcass. The reinforcing structure is built up of two layers of metallic cords crossed with each other, and an additional third layer of heat shrinkable textile cords that form, with the longitudinal direction of the tire, an angle which is not zero and is a smaller angle than that of the underlying cords. The third textile layer is applied by butt-joining its respective opposite ends along a straight line parallel to the metallic cords of the underlying metallic layer.

  • Patent number: 4146415
Abstract: A process is provided for the manufacture of radial tires for vehicle wheels, having an annular reinforcement structure inserted between the tread and the casing. The reinforcement structure has two layers of metal cord and in a radially outer position a third layer of cords arranged in a longitudinal direction. The third layer is made of a textile material which shrinks when heated. The process comprises the steps of first shaping the vulcanized casing to form a toroid, then applying to the shaped casing the two layers of metal cords together with a portion of the layer of textile cords at each side zone of the reinforcement structure. The width of the side zone is between 1/3 and 1/10 of the total width of the structure. The casing is shaped a second time to increase the external equatorial development thereof to a value greater than that reached during the first shaping step. The remaining central portion of the layer of textile cord is then applied on top of the layers of metal cords.

  • Patent number: 4140168
Abstract: A vehicle tire combining improved riding comfort, road gripping characteristics and tire tread wear has the conventional radial carcass and tread and an improved annular breaker structure reinforcing the crown portion of the tire. The improved breaker structure has two or more layers of metallic cords disposed at an angle of about 10.degree. to about 35.degree. with the longitudinal direction of the tire. The metallic cords of one layer cross those of the adjacent layer. At least one layer of nylon or similar textile cords which shrink when the tire is heat cured is disposed between the radially outermost layer of metallic cords and the tread. The textile cords are disposed around the circumference of the tire in planes which are substantially parallel to the longitudinal direction of the tire and at densitities along the lateral edges of the breaker which are at least about 50% higher than the density thereof in the crown zone of the breaker.

  • Patent number: 3990493
Abstract: This invention relates to a radial ply tire containing an improved breaker structure, whereby, in addition to good characteristics of road holding and driving safety, also good features of comfort are obtained. The breaker structure comprises at least two layers of metal cords, the cords of each layer being parallel and crossing those of the adjacent layer, said cords forming an angle between 10.degree. and 35.degree. with the equatorial axis of the tire, and at least one additional layer of textile cords arranged in a radially outermost position, said cords being orientated in the circumferential direction of the tire, which reduce in length when subjected to influence of heat, at least part of said textile cords having a limited length, less than that of the corresponding circumferential development of the tire.

  • Patent number: 3972978
Abstract: A method for discharging a cured tire from a mold in which method the lower sidewall of the tire is disengaged from the lower section of the mold by raising the tire with respect to the position in which it had been cured while maintaining the sections of the mold at its tread and upper sidewall in contact with the tire, then disengaging the section at its tread by moving said section radially outwardly while simultaneously pushing the tire and section at its upper sidewall downward to a level lower than that corresponding to the lower surface of the section of the mold for the tire's tread, displacing the section for the tire tread inwardly until its diameter is less than the outer diameter of the tire and finally raising the tire and the upper section for the upper sidewall until the tire is disengaged from the upper sidewall section.
