Patent number: 5297168Abstract: In a radio mobile system in which the radio signals are received by at least two antenna, the signals are filtered, weighted and then combined before being sent to an equalizer. The weighting coefficients are calculated as a function of signals corresponding to the power level received by each antenna and signals which is represent the quality of reception of each antenna. Furthermore, an equalizer control signal is generated from the combination of signals, weighted by the weighting coefficients, corresponding to the time response of the transmission channel to a single impulse.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1992Date of Patent: March 22, 1994Assignee: Italtel Societa Italiana Telecommunicazioni s.p.a.Inventors: Marcello Sant'Agostino, Luigi Moreno, Renato D'Avella

Patent number: 4645534Abstract: A process for controlling continuous casting conditions in steel tapped from a furnace, which proceeds from a ladle into a tundish, and then via a submerged nozzle to a continuous casting mold. In either the ladle or the tundish, the liquid steel is subjected to radiation heating and convection heating from an electric heating device by which an electric current is made to pass through the liquid steel from this heating device to a return located downstream of the device, for example in the continuous casting mold. Preferably, the heating device is a transferred arc plasma torch. In addition, the nozzle between the tundish and the continuous casting mold is subjected not only to the passage of current but also to a direct magnetic field perpendicular to the steel stream.Type: GrantFiled: October 22, 1985Date of Patent: February 24, 1987Assignee: Centro Sperimentale Metallurgico S.p.A.Inventors: Renato D'Angelo, Aldo Ramacciotti, Eugenio Repetto, Pietro Tolve

Patent number: 4304962Abstract: Binary digital data signal patterns containing either no transitions, periodically recurring transitions or both are randomized by constructing a key signal from a summation of selected stored digits of the data pattern and combining such key signal with the data signal to form a scrambled line signal for transmission. The line signal so constructed is free of signal energy concentrated at particular frequencies and provides signal transitions adequate in number to assure reliable recovery of synchronization information. Descrambling of the received line signal is accomplished by precisely the inverse of the scrambling operation. The system is self-synchronizing because the key signals constructed by each of the scrambler and descrambler are derived from the same line signal.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1965Date of Patent: December 8, 1981Assignee: Bell Telephone Laboratories, IncorporatedInventors: Renato D. Fracassi, Tarmo Tammaru

Patent number: 4196049Abstract: A segmented manipulator arm for a nuclear reactor vessel inspection device is disclosed. The several segments of the arm are linked in a manner which permits independent movement of each segment in a different plane of motion. The transducer array which is utilized to conduct the examination of any appropriate point in the reactor vessel is cooperably linked to the final or most forward segment of the manipulator arm.The first segment of the manipulator arm is appropriately coupled to the main column of the inspection device for independent movement in one of three planes relative to the main column. Additional segments are employed and cooperatively linked to the first segment to yield a total of nine planes of movement for one or more of the segments. In addition, brackets are used to constrain segment movement in parallel or predetermined planes as desired.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1978Date of Patent: April 1, 1980Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventors: David C. Burns, Lanson Y. Shum, Renato D. Reyes, Arthur F. Jacobs, Duane W. Morris, Raymond P. Castner

Patent number: 4165254Abstract: A pulley system for use in driving the manipulating arm of a nuclear reactor vessel inspection device is disclosed. Two drive pulleys and pulley take-up spools are disposed in driving engagement with a motor. The pulley cable is looped about a first set of idler pulleys fixed to the manipulator arm which is to be driven along the main or central column of the inspection device. Two additional idler pulleys, a second set, are used to define another portion of the pulley cable loop, which portion serves to equalize unbalanced forces in the cable. When the drive motor is actuated, only that portion of the pulley cable between the drive set and the first set of idler pulleys moves. Depending on the direction of movement, the manipulator arm is raised or lowered with equal force on each side thereof minimizing wear and potential hazards.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1977Date of Patent: August 21, 1979Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventor: Renato D. Reyes

Patent number: 4149933Abstract: An emergency braking system for halting vertical movement of the manipulator arm of a nuclear reactor vessel inspection device in the event of an overspeed condition is disclosed. A pneumatically operated cylinder is disposed adjacent each of the drive grooves formed in the main column of the inspection device on which the manipulator arm is vertically driven. The piston of each cylinder is connected to a brake shoe which is held out of contact with the drive grooves by spring loaded roller bearings. When an overspeed condition is sensed, the pneumatic cylinders are triggered and their pistons are moved at a speed significantly in excess of the vertical overspeed velocity of the manipulator arm. When this occurs, each brake shoe contacts a brake lining which guides the shoe against the drive grooves of the main column, moving the spring loaded bearings away from the groove and restraining further vertical manipulator arm movement.Type: GrantFiled: March 25, 1977Date of Patent: April 17, 1979Assignee: Westinghouse Electric Corp.Inventor: Renato D. Reyes

Patent number: 4014292Abstract: A sanitary pet litter container comprises a carton of sheet material which may be folded into a wedge-shaped configuration for storage or disposal or which may be opened to receive pets. The carton has a bottom and opposing end walls that are foldable inwardly toward each other on mutually parallel end fold lines which are spaced from and parallel to the bottom. Two opposing side walls are joined to the end walls at four corners. Each side wall has a central portion which is foldable inwardly toward the other side wall central portion on a lateral side fold line parallel to the other lateral side fold line but not parallel to the bottom. Further, each side wall has two wing portions each of which is foldable outwardly against the central portion on one fold line corresponding to one corner and on an acute side fold line. Each of these acute side fold lines originates at the intersection of the one corner with a lateral side fold line and bisects the angle defined by the intersection.Type: GrantFiled: May 7, 1976Date of Patent: March 29, 1977Inventors: Warren J. Coughlin, Renato D. Fecci
