  • Patent number: 4607121
Abstract: A process for preparing an alkaline metal salt of a polyethoxycarboxylic acid defined by the formulaR'(OR).sub.m (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n-1 (OCH.sub.2)COOMby oxidation in the presence of a platinum or palladium catalyst, of a polyethoxy alcohol of the formulaR'(OR).sub.m (OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2).sub.n OH,followed by reactivating the catalyst in the reaction mixture and recovering in active form the insoluble and soluble catalyst fractions. The alkaline metal salts of polyethoxycarboxylic acids thus produced are useful as surfactants, which can be employed in the recovery of oil from wells of medium and high salinity.

  • Patent number: 4226810
Abstract: A chemical method for splitting the pyran ring of compounds such as 2,6,6-trimethyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-pyran is disclosed which consists in reacting the 4H-pyran derivatives concerned with water and a halogen-containing or halogen-donating catalyst at a comparatively low temperature, i.e. from 50.degree. C. to 130.degree. C. Interesting results are obtained and a selection field is afforded as regards the products of the pyran-ring cleavage.

  • Patent number: 4198395
Abstract: A novel microporous resin which is useful in the treatment of hyperchloesterolemia. This resin is comprised of a cross-linked polystyrene matrix and is characterized by active moieties selected from among methylamino, methylammonium or a combination of methylamino and methylammonium groups. The porosity of this resin is capable of absorbing and retaining bile salts having an average diameter of 150-200 Angstrom units.
